We’re excited to announce our partnership with Cranfield Aerospace Solutions (CAeS) to support the development of its hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system for commercial aircraft, as part of our ambition to de-carbonise aviation. Cranfield Aerospace Solutions is developing its hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system for an existing 9-seat Britten-Norman Islander aircraft, which is planned to be flying by 2023. Our Director of Flight Operations, David Morgan said: “easyJet remains absolutely committed to sustainable flying and a towards a future with zero-emission flying. We know that technology is a key driver to achieve our decarbonisation targets with hydrogen propulsion a frontrunner for short-haul airlines like easyJet. With the first flight departing today, we’re proud to announce that a total of 42 flights we operate from Gatwick Airport are to be powered by a 30 percent Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ blend, reducing the flights CO2 emissions by up to 70 tonnes. This important milestone marks the first time a departing flight at Gatwick has used sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and is also the first usage by any of our services from the UK. The event was attended by Stephan Erler, Country Manager for Germany and our partners in this project, BER - Berlin Brandenburg Airport were represented by their CEO, Engelbert Lütke Daldrup. Jörg Steinbach, Minister for Economic Affairs, Labour and Energy of Brandenburg also attended, along with other local stakeholders and media representatives.
