A Meeting of Minds: Grede’s Blend of Student Education and Technology Collaboration 🎓🚀 Grede Headquarters in Southfield, Michigan, recently had the pleasure of hosting two bright students from Stevenson High School's MADE program (Manufacturing Automation Design Engineering). They spent time shadowing our engineering team to gain insights into the daily tasks, requirements, and environment of engineers and other positions within manufacturing companies. We also welcomed Chuck Brandt, Chief Technology Officer from the ARM Institute (Advanced Robotics for Manufacturing), and Jeannine Kunz, Chief Work Development Officer from SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers). Alongside Grede’s own experts, Susan Bear Sabet, our Chief Technology Officer, Jeff Paxton, Director of Product Engineering, and Matt Hladki, Chief Administrative Officer, we shared with Jeannine and Chuck how Grede is transforming “from the art of the foundry to the science of metalcasting™, specifically including innovations like automated robotic cells, 3D printing for sand cores, and our smart manufacturing IoT strategy. Chuck shared ARM’s mission, vision, capabilities, and goal to expand their impact on the casting industry. The meeting highlighted potential collaborations with ARM to drive technological advancements not only at our plants but across the entire casting industry. Grede Biscoe goes #GreenForSafety. ✅👕 Each team member at our Biscoe, NC facility recently received green t-shirts to keep our #1 priority in mind—staying safe. The back of the shirt shares our goal to “soar into safety” for the rest of the year. At the end of Safety Month, the Biscoe team held a cookout celebration and ordered these shirts to “go green for safety” along with the National Safety Council. The photos show the finance, first-shift operations, quality engineering, and production control teams. Safety is about doing the harder right over the easier wrong. At Grede, we’re building a safety culture that lasts. The work is never done when it comes to safety. Once we’ve achieved zero incidents, then we know we’ve met our ultimate goal. Their expertise has been invaluable in our quest to optimize energy use, and their recent visit to our flagship foundry in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, has illuminated new ways to enhance efficiency. We identified the following equipment as our highest energy consumers: compressed air, Cupola operation, dust collection, and makeup air systems. With Cascade’s guidance, we’ve identified impactful actions that promise significant kilowatt-hour savings, allowing us to forge ahead and reduce our energy footprint. Reflecting on last year’s Cascade Energy Tune-up at our New Castle, Indiana foundry, we’re proud to say that the energy reductions achieved there were monumental. It’s a testament to what we can accomplish with the right partnerships and a shared vision for a cleaner world. Our second-annual Intern & Grad Summit was a success! 🚀 Last week, 11 interns and 8 Grede Grads flew across the U.S. to Grede headquarters in Southfield, Michigan. The two-day event focused on interns on the first day and the grads on the second day. Day one started with breakfast with the CEO, where our interns and grads had dedicated time with CEO Cary Wood to hear from him and ask questions. Then, our interns shared what they learned this summer during the intern showcase. After lunch, they had a learning summit with sessions including finance 101, an intro to sales, and the basics of the melt process. The first day ended with a networking event at Topgolf.
