Pros

- Flat organizational structure. Managers maintain technical chops. - Limited meetings and bureaucracy (though this depends on the position) enable engineers to get real work done during the day! - Good tools to help engineers get their jobs done - Competitive pay, excellent stock purchase program, good health benefits, generous bonding leave policy, reasonable vacation policy - Flexible policy regarding working from home For the most part, my experience has been that management and IT have provided the tools for engineers to be productive, and then try to "get out of the way". There's more trust and less micromanagement and bureaucracy compared to other organizations I've worked in. I'd estimate that I spend 90% of my time on real technical work, compared to perhaps 30% at my prior employer, despite having the same position (design engineer).

Kontras

- 401k match is pretty low - The hours can be long, though this is up to the individual. Management is very supportive in terms of balancing project priorities with work/life balance, and will shift people around to help out when it's needed.

Pros

Management is competent and actually cares about employee welfare. Jensen is the least sociopathic CEO I've ever worked under. The work has been interesting and I was actually allowed to do things right, and not just "right now".

Kontras

The company is 3X the size it was when I joined, with all the usual problems of massive growth. And of course the AI hype at Nvidia is intense.

Pros

NVIDIA's PTO and Sick policies are compassionate and generous. Managers listen to employees' ideas. Employees get to work on a wider variety of projects than expected, and usually work closely with other teams to get things done. Collaboration is tight almost all of the time.

Kontras

Employees don't always get insight into why they were assigned a particular project, or have much if any choice about what projects they get to work on. Managers are often too busy working on projects themselves to have the free time to meet with employees on a regular basis. This leads to short-term, reactive thinking rather than long-term visionary thinking.
