Got invited for the first round of the interview. In it, there were two people - one seemed friendly and asked almost all of the questions, the presence of another person felt odd and that person was almost fully silent. Was asked an almost robotic chain of unassociated questions related to the very basics of data engineering, The interviewer quite often made a series of relatively straightforward conceptual mistakes ("Avro" as a messaging format, "ADF" as an example of a system requiring serious CI/CD work). Despite that, I got a rejection letter saying that "the overall technical depth and the way complex cases were approached did not fully match what is needed for this role". While I do appreciate not having a generic rejection letter, this specific description feels unfounded when the level of seniority and technical expertise of the interviewers felt below the threshold where such assessment can be made.
