-Christmas in July Brings Joy and Personal Connection- This heartwarming story from Stacy Avist, a Managing Partner here at Carriage, beautifully shows how deeply compassion and community are embedded in our culture. "Recently, I had the privilege of attending the Christmas in July event at MD Anderson Children’s Hospital in Houston. It was hosted in partnership with Triumph Over Kid Cancer, a foundation I have supported since its beginning in 2010. This foundation means a great deal to me, and the event was filled with warmth and hope. One moment stood out — I reunited with a young boy from Corpus Christi. I have known his family since I moved there in 2005. His mother was a teenager when we met through our church, St. Pius X Catholic Church. Seeing him now and sharing that moment together was truly special. It was a joyful reminder of the lasting impact of community, service, and compassion." -Stacy A.

Recently in May, nearly 200 women in funeral service gathered at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico, for the 2025 NFDA Professional Women’s Conference — and it didn’t disappoint. Several of our team members had the chance to attend, and they returned energized and inspired by the shared experience. -What Made It Memorable- The conference kicked off with a warm welcome reception that included local food, traditional Pueblo dancers, and a meaningful greeting from the community. From there, it was a packed few days of education, connection, and reflection. Throughout the event, speakers brought diverse perspectives—from funeral directors and educators to business strategists, coaches, and advocates. The common thread? A shared commitment to supporting and advancing women in this profession.

WOW Moment from A.A. Mariani Funeral Home We would like to recognize a truly powerful moment of service from Mike Ryan and the team at A.A. Mariani Funeral Home. After the loss of their beloved matriarch, a family chose a unique and deeply personal way to honor her—a horse-drawn carriage to the cemetery. The black carriage, draped in flowing black fabric and pulled by white horses, reflected the family’s theme of white attire and a white casket. Though the cemetery was less than a mile away, the procession turned heads across the city. People stopped, took photos, and paid quiet tribute as it passed. Before the procession began, the matriarch’s grandchildren were invited to meet the horses—creating one last beautiful memory with her. Mike and his team didn’t just accommodate the family’s vision—they embraced it. This is what it looks like to meet families where they are in grief, and to help them create something unforgettable. Well done, Mariani team.
Last Sunday, we celebrated Father’s Day—a time to honor the strength, guidance, and unwavering support that fathers and father figures bring to our lives. At Carriage Services, we recognize the unique role that fatherhood plays not only at home but also in the workplace. From our funeral directors and drivers to our support staff and executive leaders, many of our team members carry the responsibilities of fatherhood with compassion, wisdom, and grace. We are proud of the way our Carriage family supports one another both professionally and personally. To all the dads, stepdads, grandfathers, mentors, and role models in our Carriage family—thank you. Your impact is felt far beyond your title.
