Advising on the R&D Tax Incentive requires a unique combination of technical and commercial expertise. Our consultants work at the intersection of taxation, accounting and innovation, combining financial and regulatory knowledge with the ability to understand complex engineering, scientific and technological activities. This multidisciplinary approach enables us to provide practical, compliant and commercially focused advice to clients operating across a broad range of industries.
Your Day to Day:
As an R&D Tax Consultant, you play a key role in providing advisory services to corporate clients, supporting the technical evaluation, optimisation and structuring of their R&D and innovation activities, and contributing to their broader commercial and business objectives through multiple government incentive programs.
In this client-facing role, you will:
- Engage directly with technical personnel including engineers, software developers, and scientists as well as senior management personnel to evaluate technical activities and associated expenditure under the R&D Tax Incentive program.
- Review and assess financial and technical information relating to R&D activities to support the accuracy, completeness and compliance of client claims with relevant taxation legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Examine client operating costs, project expenditure and financial records to assess the eligibility and substantiation of R&D activities and associated expenditure under relevant taxation legislation.
- Review and advise on client processes for capturing, recording and managing R&D expenditure and project documentation to maintain accurate reporting and compliance outcomes.
- Assist clients in responding to ATO and AusIndustry reviews by analysing financial and technical records, preparing reports and supporting documentation and providing advice on R&D taxation compliance obligations.
- Work with senior team members to analyse intercompany arrangements, related-party expenditure and operational structures associated with R&D activities, assisting in the preparation of taxation advice and supporting contractual documentation to support compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Assist clients with the preparation of R&D claim schedules to support corporate tax return lodgements and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Liaise with client finance teams, funding providers and external stakeholders in relation to R&D financing arrangements, including the preparation of supporting analyses, expenditure summaries and comfort letter documentation to assist clients in securing and managing funding against anticipated R&D Tax Incentive entitlements.
- Monitor developments in R&D taxation legislation, regulatory guidance and emerging technologies to support best-practice advisory outcomes for clients.
- Contribute to the growth of the firm through involvement in client engagement, business development and internal strategic initiatives, operating in a dynamic consulting environment requiring adaptability, problem-solving and strong stakeholder management skills.
What You'll Need to Succeed:
- Experience: 3+ years of experience assisting companies with the preparation and substantiation of R&D tax claims within a professional services or advisory environment.
- Education: An undergraduate academic degree in a related discipline with a strong analytical focus.
- Technical and Analytical Skills: Ability to engage with technical personnel including engineers, software developers and Doctors to understand complex project activities and prepare accurate R&D documentation and supporting analyses.
- Analytical Capability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex taxation legislation, regulatory guidance and technical information.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical and financial concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders from a range of professional backgrounds.
- Attention to Detail and Organisation: Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to critically assess large volumes of financial and technical information while managing competing priorities and statutory deadlines.

Pay: $80,000.00 – $95,000.00 per year
