Pros

- As it is a startup there is much more opportunity to have an impact as a more junior engineer than at a more established company. Within a few months of working there I was given responsibility for a few medium sized projects, and was involved in hiring new engineers - The hours are pretty flexible, while most people work roughly 9-5 there is no expectation to do so, and everyone is free to work from home or the office as they wish - The office is pretty nice too - All the people are lovely and great to work with, and they are all very competent at what they do

Kontras

- The sales/onboarding cycle can be pretty long as our clients are large heavy industrial companies, this can lead to a bit of tedious back and forth with clients and iteration on parts of the product

Pros

When I was working there, there were three tech teams about to be four. I think some of the teams were well organized and had supportive leadership. The tech stack is very new and local development is fast -- no Docker needed.

Kontras

The team I was on was fast paced. They expected me to pick up some of the tech stack and the complicated nature of the metals supply chain industry in the first two months. Feedback was it given directly and I felt like co-workers were talking about me behind my back. I made a joke about selling a pair of shoes left behind by the last company who rented the office space and five people reported me directly to the CTO and didn't seem to care that I could have lost my job because they tattled on me. Very middle school vibes. Another female co-worker also left around tbe same time I did because there's some weird clique-y vibes coming from leadership. Product development is top-down so you don't really get input as an engineer even though it's a small startup. There's no HR and they don't bother to outsource so it is just overall sketchy! I would prioritize your mental health and work somewhere where your manager actively supports you and wants to see you grow as a person and employee, not just see you as a ticket machine. They didn't even put my manager through training when he was promoted from a software engineering position.
