Pros
A good solid company that cares about doing the right thing whether it is important to the world or not. Here it is always important to do the right thing, do the right thing. Management says this a lot. It is unique here, and a commitment to constantly getting better, innovating, caring again and again. Very personal emphasis on team building. There is strong drive here for results and impact. There is also a strong drive for balance so that people can have life outside. I need that and I have found it here. Diversity and inclusion: The values here on black lives matter were important before it became a media event. We had Diversity Plans in place a decade ago, hiring strongly for people of all colors, black, asian, people who are country-less, such as the Kurds. This is not new and something we had to introduce. Very innovative, very on top of it and thinks of diversity in a very expanded away. Diversity doesn't just mean color. There is also a strong emphasis on hiring disabled individuals, and finding the value and skills of people with physical challenges. It is the same with veterans. Those with service are highly valued. Always expanding what that definition of diversity means. It is fluid not old or stuffed away concept. Pay: Is mid road, good. Not high Silicon Valley salaries and not low. It is respectable and great for me.. Management: Global and very diverse. Ability to Handle Pandemic. It is in place. We had all the top software, tech needed and already in place. Pandemic Impact: Security from CEO talk that no one would lose their jobs, be furloughed, fired. Stayed true and all positions were secure. Personalized growth plans for management growth for each individual with a head of People Growth. For nonprofits, that's rare. Everyone has their own plan. You feel good knowing that conversation is ongoing, and you can also talk about it in your two week checkin. Full-time recruiting, unique to have that commitment. It is very inspiring to me that we are always looking for good people and looking in advance. It's very secure to know we are building for future. Still for me the greatest point is that DNA of black lives matter, people of color lives matter, of finding people of all different backgrounds. You can really see everyone thrive because people of so many different areas of the world, ethnicities, physical capabilities, etc are brought in and together. So we all are so different, and all of us are passionate about the mission which brings us together. There is innovation here, and also safety.
Kontras
Definitely not having the San Francisco office. We are global and some people we have never met in person because San Francisco/Germany/UK/Taiwan/Canada/Pakistan/Haiti/Philippines/. People are all over. But, for those in the office, it was remarkable. Great amenities. Great culture, great camaraderie and great collaboration. Right now we have no office and we don't know if we will return to it.... Following Gitlab model, entirely virtual for global safety and to mitigate any issues. We still have a great culture, but would wish for office again if we can.
