Pros
Honestly , I worked here for over a year and will say it has its positives and negatives.
Positives:
Decent Pay
Free meals
Long breaks between or before service periods
Cool coworkers
Friendly Residents
Beautiful facility with fun things to do off the clock
Kontras
Negatives:
#1 Disorganization from management generally . To fully express the extent of this I need to sidebar. Basically , there was no communication from my direct supervisor which made my job extremely hard. Sometimes I’d walk into work , as the solo server and both main elevators will be broken . The dumb waiter might be broken as well making it nearly impossible for one person to serve an entire dining room. Apparently , even if it broke the night before , no one wants to give you notice of what you are walking into . A similar thing can be said about events. There would randomly and regularly be dining events for move in prospects that would happen directly in the middle of our normal service time for residents . This would greatly impact the timelines and quality of service that the residents received. Chefs would pull cook from the line for 10-15 to debrief and have meetings WHILE we were sending in tickets and were in the middle of full service. Things like this happen almost everyday and certainly every week. It shows extreme incompetence by leadership . They work their best workers like dogs and pat you on the back instead of increasing your pay . I could go on about this but the point has been made
#2 Lack of clear standards and rule enforcement
This one is relatively self explanatory but I shall go into detail to be specific. I had coworkers who were late every single day making my life and some of my other coworkers lives much harder. What happens when a person shows up 30 min late so they couldn’t fulfill their preparation duties for lunch service? The entire period is thrown off and is spent playing catch up . As if the sheer volume and demand from residents wasn’t enough to juggle as it is. And if you’re actually good at your job, more burden is placed directly on you as a result especially if you actually care about doing your job well. I even reported some of these things to our Executive Director and still nothing changed.
#3 Pay
I’ll admit the pay is decent at this company for servers and such but let me tell you , they are screwing over everybody. They have a “don’t discuss pay” policy and because I was so tight with everybody , I found out why . It’s because they are screwing some people by paying them less for the same job . I was making 16/hr for a long time . Come to find out , my two fellow coworkers who did the same job as me, were making 21 per hour . Some other servers were making 15/hr. Eventually I talked my way up to 19/hr but they could’ve given me 21 and decided not to for absolutely no reason besides just not wanting to . There is also drastic pay disparity among management . Hardest working , best management gets paid the least and laziest get paid the most . Go figure.
All in all , it was okay without some days being far worse than others and some days being far better. The company has potential . If they learned to value and treat their good employees will , then it could truly be a great place . If they keep hiring idiots because they have shiny resumes and refusing to hold people to any kind of standards, nothing will change .
As a final note I’ll say they are robbing the residents. They charge them for literally breathing . At the end of the month, if they don’t spend their food budget money, it doesn’t roll over to the next month they just keep it for themselves. And it is ALOT over time . It’s very expensive to live at Touchmark .
