Pros
The London Toaster team is a bunch of genuinely nice, talented people who make working there enjoyable. The structure is relatively flat and unstuffy. Founders and management are approachable. Where appropriate, tasks are approached in a collaborative, non hierarchical way. The founders are keen for Toaster to work for ethical businesses and to give back by doing pro bono work. Toaster is a company that seems to actually care about its employees. There is some flexibility on working hours and staff are treated like grown ups and trusted to get the job done. Toaster provide good benefits and staff get proper reviews (including salary) on a yearly basis, with 360 degree feedback. HR Management is responsive and empathetic, they relatively recently implemented Mental Health First Aiders and a mental health support platform. Toaster arranges regular, fun, social activities which are well attended by all departments. During lockdown periods last year they made a big effort to keep morale up by arranging online social activities and regularly sending staff thoughtful personalised treats and thank yous.
Kontras
Sometimes decisions can bottleneck with management, which is frustrating. Toaster was in a state of flux when one of the founders left last year. It has taken a while for the remaining founders and management to set a new path for where the business is going and to share this with everyone. However, they recently implemented a monthly meeting for London staff to ensure everyone is regularly updated on plans, loop everyone in on what is happening globally and give staff an open forum to ask management any questions.
