Pros
- Higher starting salaries compared to MOE or other enrichment/ tuition centres. (Note to aspiring employees: do negotiate for higher salary when you start as annual increment is minimal.) - Quality teaching materials prepared by the curriculum team. Makes lesson planning easier.
Kontras
- Zero career progression unless you want to switch to people managment and customer service i.e. deal with parents to resolve student/ teacher/ classroom issues. For those who enjoy teaching, there is no progression. Not an issue if you're fine with a plateau career-wise. - Lack of professional development. There is neither budget nor resources to help you upskill. They have few trained teachers and basically no manpower to improve the quality of teaching or teaching experience. Afterall, it is listed as a retail business which means it's for profit. So, if you're happy to cruise as well as content with what they offer remuneration-wise and leave-wise, do stay for as long as possible as it is likely you'll feel potentially ill-equipped to find work elsewhere since TLL has robbed you of the opportunity for professional growth. If you seek career progression and a remuneration package that commensurate with experience, leave now rather than later. - Poor leave system. This is a recurring pain point in many, if not all, reviews through the years so you know it has long been an issue that has yet to be resolved. You bid for leave dates as though you're bidding for university courses and it's essentially fastest fingers first.
