Pros
Decent pay and benefits for a retail position without formal education or training. Most of your co-workers will be great people you could spend time with outside of work (if you are so inclined). Being a prime-time employee (part-time with the possibility of a 35 hour work week) pays well, but requires more than your typical retail job. The discount on almost all product in the store is 40% and elfa shelving is 50%.
Kontras
Kip and Melissa make false claims about their compassion for the employees. It's all about the sales goals and bottom line now. I started working at TCS when they sold the company but before they went public. The advertised culture was very strong at the time but quickly deteriorated after Garret Boone retired and the economy crumbled. Salary, bonus and benefit freezes along with payroll cuts led to many people leaving. many stuck it out due to loyalty, but they were never rewarded for it. The worst part was the way things changed after the economy recovered. They reinstated everything, but then, instead of bringing the cultures back to the way it was, the business was combed through every inch of the business for opportunities to be even more efficient with the slogan "look under every rock." Each day was now a pressure cooker, with everyone feeling like they were under a microscope. Good employees felt scrutinized and negative feeling pervaded the store. Hiring from the outside instead of promoting from within became a more and more common occurrence, with lateral promotions implemented as a moral band-aid for loyal employees who had worked for years towards a promotion. Don't get involved with this company unless you want to work extremely hard in a part time role for a little more money than you can find elsewhere.
