You will start by answering emails and taking phone calls, no matter how much experience you have. Middle management is hostile to anyone new trying to get noticed. I created a presentation on my own time to improve inefficiencies in the organization. Unannounced, three managers came in, opened their computers, started typing, and left right when I was done without saying anything. Turns out they were trying to send me a juvenile message that they did not like that I was trying to stand out. After that, things went really south. My boss told me to stop my side projects, yelled at me for coming on with assignments without her permission, and began micromanaged me. Other employees then also started to call me out for random stuff because I was seen as a problem, which hurt my performance.
