Pros

They have brought in new Sr. Management that are focused on getting the company profitable. At all costs. 18,000 people reduction in Japan. Closing 6 factories and discontinuing the sale of non-profitable products. Sr. Management is now focusing on basic business practices to improve employee performance.

Kontras

Sr. management will not leave some of the traditional Japanese ways. All employees paid at the same pay (roughly - minor deviation). Also, performance reviews are decided by a committee (in an effort to equalize, but instead you get people weighing in who have no clue about other employees). Early Retirement allows the company to reduce headcount, but it is usually the best people that go.

In my experience, the work environment is negatively critical, and feedback often felt focused on mistakes rather than development. Upper management did not appear to encourage open and honest discussion, making it difficult to raise concerns or share ideas. Compensation seemed below market rates compared to similar roles in the industry. Over time, morale appeared to decline, and many employees became disengaged and less confident in their work. Several talented colleagues left during my time there, and turnover seemed consistently high.
