Pros

*Management will let you know quickly where exactly you rank. *Almost never need to get anything done if you can shove it to another "silo".

Kontras

*Management will lie to you if you've been acquired. *Management will be vague about *At risk of having work from another silo pushed on to you. *Responses from management and other departments take a long time because of time zone differences. *You'll be responsible for taking over work from other acquired companies after their employees leave or are let go.

Pros

Stable, fast moving/nimble organization looking to grow. Software has a great reputation and clients speak very highly of the product. No micromanagement. Lots of inbound leads to work! Products are evolving and revenue is growing!

Pros

The corporate structure at preemptive was pretty cool - there were around 40 employees when I worked there, and we'd have a company-wide meeting every week. They were very transparent about revenue and sales. The dev team was managed very professionally. The product and team managers were both good to work with from a dev perspective. They both had lots of technical background, and the team manager was very talented in dealing with people.

Kontras

Unfortunately, PreEmptive got bought out by a larger company whose goal was to minimize costs (i.e. outsource development to India) and maintain revenue. You probably won't find a dev job at PreEmptive if you're in the states now.
