Pros
I'd recommend Associates to any PhD student who wants to make money during their PhD using their desk skills or knowledge. Project topics can be varied, and the skills and experiences can look great on a CV. On my first few projects, the payments were quite small, but now I've got the hang of it, £100s can be earned on each project. Since I joined at the end of last year, I've made enough to go travelling at the end of my PhD.
Kontras
Some months are a little quieter that others, with less projects open to join. Getting a space on some of the more popular projects can be a little difficult. It would be better if there were more projects available and they were spread out across the year.
