Pros

Good pay and on time, flexible work arrangements.

Kontras

Many people were contracted to work at a project that was supposed to last 3-6 weeks for up to 40h/week. We received training and started working, until about a week later the project was paused and no information was provided on how long is paused for, if it ended, if we'll get paid for the time agreed upon. Many people were put in different tasks than what they were originally hired for, and then paused again. Many of us asked on the slack channel and the lack of preparation and management skills from the team is clear, the responses are vague and there's no respect for the time people set aside for this project, people who possibly even turned down other work, since this was supposed to be up to 40h/week. Very weird way to operate, very little respect for the thousands of people they said to have hired.

Pros

Working here offers a ton of exposure to fast-paced projects and modern tech. You get a lot of autonomy early on, which is fantastic if you are self-driven and want to build your technical or operational problem-solving skills. The team is sharp and highly motivated.

Kontras

Because the environment moves so quickly, processes can sometimes change overnight without much warning. It requires a high level of adaptability, and onboarding can feel a bit like jumping straight into the deep end.

Pros

Mercor provides access to a wide range of AI-related projects including evaluations, data labeling, rubric grading, and prompt/world generation, which makes it a great way to gain hands-on experience in the AI space. The onboarding process is smooth, and there is strong operational support through tools like the Melvin chatbot as well as EPMs who oversee projects and provide guidance when needed. Pay is competitive, and weekly payouts are a major advantage. For someone looking for flexible, project-based work rather than a traditional full-time role, it can be a valuable opportunity to build skills and stay active in the AI ecosystem.

Kontras

Work is not consistent or guaranteed, and project availability can be competitive. Most roles are short-term or variable in duration, which means income and workload can fluctuate significantly. While there are now some full-time project opportunities, they tend to be highly competitive and dependent on location and prior experience. Matching to projects aligned specifically with one’s background isn’t always guaranteed, though skill-based matching does improve over time.
