Pros

This has been and continues to be a rewarding work experience that energizes all my entrepreneurial senses. I get to be the "CEO" of my own desk and given the space and autonomy to craft a way to valuable results for Layer One and our clients. I've been given all the tools to succeed in this dynamic work environment from coaching to book clubs to mentorship and space to try my ideas out to learn what works best. I’ve never felt so connected to my work, deeply challenged and supported all at the same time at a company. The CEO and leadership team are compassionate as well as challenging when it comes to providing feedback to fuel growth. Although uncomfortable at times, the level of transparency and direct input has been a catalyst for what’s been rewarding and life-changing work. I’m grateful to be here and look forward to continuing to grow and make significant contributions towards the building of this wonderful company!

Kontras

No real cons other than the fact that this is a growth-minded organization that is going through a transformational time. The company is experiencing “growing pains” as it looks to improve in all areas to support current and future business goals.

Pros

- Competitive pay for your position - Solid benefits and some truly brilliant coworkers - Fun company outings - Startup culture/vibe - Fun downtown building, close to many amenities

Kontras

Layer One promises the moon and stars, but you need to be prepared for what the day-to-day resembles. Externally, Layer One delivers some fantastic solutions and products and does a great job making clients happy. Internally, however, it's a different story. L1 is embedded in startup culture, both positively and negatively; on the one hand, products and projects move quickly and there are some exciting developments. Your position will quickly evolve and change depending on business needs. On the other hand, the volatility and turnkey nature of products produces tons of stress and confusion, which creates issues for the entire team. Employees are on a very short leash with vague performance goals. Turnover is EXTREMELY high (a shocking amount of employees departed over the last year). Also, concerningly, leadership encourages a "frat" culture, and I heard many things behind closed doors that were downright disrespectful. There's a ton of technical know-how, but a shockingly low amount of EQ. Layer One attracts a specific type of person, and you need to know what employment with them entails before accepting an offer from them.
