Pros
- Nice and fun people - every time I'm in the office I really enjoy hanging out with my team and other teams. - The engineering team is still relatively small but the number of customers is big! That means a lot of opportunities for starting and driving big initiatives if you're about doing initiatives - the business will appreciate it. - They are serious about learning and they spend money on it. From small tech talks with free lunches to paid weekly dedicated learning time and reimbursements for courses/certificates you want. - Pretty flat structure within the teams. The organisation chart is still there but inside your own team you're not much different to your team lead when it comes to making decisions or having opinions.
Kontras
- Sometimes too many things need to get done "ASAP" at the same time since there are many teams all relying on eng work and the business is growing at the same time. Not an everyday problem though. - There have been a couple of times in the initiatives that I was involved with where, the teams come together and make some decisions and implement a solution, and after it's all done, the higher management requests something completely different. I don't mind the rework, but I don't think it's great that they don't consult the team to learn about the reasons behind the decisions. It comes across as a lack of trust in their delegation. To be fair though, I should also mention that the few times I remember this happened were pretty old and I don't recall any more instances of this recently and I don't think that is a coincidence. The HR team takes frequent feedback from everyone and presumably, this has been mentioned by some people like me and actioned on by the management, which is great.
