Pros

coworkers animals helping the public (until recently)

Kontras

CEO lies to staff, donors and the public. Told me when I was hired we would be in a new shelter in 2 years. That was over six years ago. Then other staff told me she has been saying that since she was hired almost 15 years ago. CEO makes almost$400,000 a year and raises money on lies. Recently put a young white woman in charge as her yes-girl. We worked the entire pandemic and CEO was never around - too busy vacationing in her second home. In the past two months HRA has started turning animals away, including injured animals and wildlife. This has always been hard work and it's getting worse since January.

Pros

Obviously a great mission to rescue and support pets. The training, veterinary, and behavior teams are knoweldgable, care, and work super hard for far too little.

Kontras

While I was there I had three different job descriptions in four months, and not one of the changes was every discussed with me, just handed over to me in a document in an email. Documents and direction were clearly outlined regarding duties, reporting, etc and then spontaneously changed because management didn't want to adhere to it. I was completely afraid to complain about management or ask for support in terms of management not providing tools. I saw a manager literally yell at multiple individuals and made me feel very unsafe in the office with them. IT was rude and acted childish, refusing to communicate properly. They disparaged people in New Jersey and than wondered why the branch there didn't want to collaborate with them. On the kennel side of things, animal care staff wasn't valued and dogs were not properly walked/runs cleaned. Volunteers were bearing the burden of what people should be properly paid to do. Some people just can randomly take time off to work from home, while others are aggressively threatened to work in an office even though there job is not connected to needs there. I feel dumb not looking at the glassdoor reviews before I accepted this job. Bad choice.
