Pros
Working with the editorial team is a real pleasure. Very professional, supportive, organized, positive, and progressive. Excellent communication, great pay.
Kontras
I honestly have not discovered a con yet.
Pros
-Their invoicing department is on point and pays quickly, although it's once per month. -Some editors are better to deal with than others. -Consistent work
Kontras
-Low pay for level of work and time expected of writers -Formulaic writing (You must include certain headings, keywords, using a tool called Clearscope which means it's pretty much laid out for you what specific direction the article must take. Sometimes the keywords are nonsensical, but you have to get a certain score to have your article approved, so figure out a way to fit as many in as you can.) -Suspect they charge way more than the $200/article they pay writers to their clients, which is common agency practice (their former founder has posted online about charging $6k+/month to their clients) You can also expect many hours of work for that $200 article. -Outdated ideas promoted more than innovative ones (doesn't make sense when most of their clients are SaaS) -Some editors justify their existence by putting ridiculous comments and things like "??" throughout documents, creating more work for the writer to try to guess what they're getting at or creating a back-and-forth comment thread -Some of the editing requires adding 400+ new words to your document- you are not paid more for that. Then you might kick yourself for spending 8-10 hours on an article and getting paid $200 for all that work. -Extremely slow turnaround time from some of their clients, months after you submitted something they might ask for edits -I used to recommend this agency to other writer friends, but opted to leave this review after one of those friends I referred also had a bad experience (And the other review left here indicates many of the same experiences.) -Ask you to submit work samples to be considered, which should be solid examples of your writing style. However, once you're in the project, you'll get comments from the editor about your style/organization even though that's theoretically why they picked you? New writers might get some decent experience here, but will quickly realize they can be paid a lot more for a lot less headaches working elsewhere. Take what you've learned, double your rate, and get out.
