Pros
Management on some federal worksites are fantastic, but it's luck of the draw. I had the good fortune of working at one such site. I learned a lot and my team worked well together. That's about where the pros stop ... as long as you don't ask corporate managers for anything, you are golden
Kontras
I found myself on a project where it was clear I was simply a seat warmer, despite going in thinking this would be a step forward. I made management aware many times that I was being underutilized, applied for positions elsewhere, but to no avail. As long as the customer isn't complaining, they don't really care. During my years there I watch compensation stagnate and insurance benefits went from okay to downright terrible. This was especially insulting, as I only ended up an ECS employee when the much smaller firm I worked for was purchased by the conpany. We lost the strong line of communication to corporate management, our excellent health insurance plan, and our annual bonuses (the latter without a comparable increase in compensation). I am pretty sure the only reason I was initially able to scrape ahead salary-wise is because my ECS division director was the PM who hired me.
