The founder - I won't use the term CEO - is extremely intelligent and a good individual contributor, however he has no EQ, zero people leadership skills, no common sense, or respect for his staff. He constantly belittles those who work for him, is extremely inconsistent in his approach to things, and blames everyone else for his shortcomings. Due to the very high staff turnover Dataengine will never be anything more than a small body shop. Do not work there or use their services.

Pros

The founder's vision is genuine and ambitious, if you care about the problem the company works on, that energy is real and was a big part of why I joined. The work is interesting, and you get broad exposure working across multiple client projects.

Kontras

- The blame culture starts at the top. Problems across clients, delivery, and projects consistently landed on individuals rather than on process or direction. - Feedbacks and 1:1s meant sitting down to a list of your mistakes, not a conversation about how to grow. - Criticism, even when explicitly invited, was usually met with defensiveness rather than discussion. - Expected to deliver like a large enterprise company, but without the resources of one. The "startup" framing mostly meant longer hours, to real startup upside. - Turnover in sales and project lead roles appears high.

work-life balance - even to that the CEO had issues
