Pros
* Positive mission (racial justice) * Organization can recruit great people with the experience to back it up. * Depending on your role, the pay can be good.
Kontras
* Leadership is unrealistic with expectations and goals. * Through its work, color of change demands accountability from their targets, but there is barely any accountability within the organization. * Doing so many jobs, but only being paid for one. * No work/life balance for a majority of people. No compensation for overtime work (nights, weekends, holidays). * Managers do not know boundaries, and staff are pressured to make a lot of sacrifices because of this. * Horrible communication, and a toxic “competition” mentality between teams. * Manipulation is widespread. * Staff are made the scapegoats when their managers make mistakes on their own. * Roles and responsibilities are not clearly defined. Management rarely provides enough information, and some will bully their staff for not understanding what they are supposed to do. * No trust. A lot of stifling from above preventing staff from doing their best work. * No career trajectory within the organization. Dead end if you aren’t leadership or don’t benefit from favoritism. * On the rare occasions management may follow through with their investment in their staff, they will make you feel like they are doing you a favor, and that you should be grateful. Even if is your right, and you deserve it.
