Pros

Remote work, annual get togethers

Kontras

CardFlight used to have that great startup culture where everyone felt like they were part of the team and were willing to go the extra mile to make a good impact. In recent years, they've added a few incompetent and insecure engineering managers who have turned the company's culture into a really toxic one. Politics and bias have severely impacted the team's morale, which has caused several top performers to leave while others are looking to leave. Anyone who has tried to take this to upper management has received no support or faced pushback, suggesting they are either encouraging this behavior or simply don't care.

Pros

CardFlight is a great place to grow your career. There are a lot of interesting problems to solve and the company does a fantastic job of supporting professional development -especially for fresh grads and mid-level folks growing their "senior" wings. It's very much a place where you can choose your own level of involvement and stake your claim as long as you can back it up with good performance. Comp and benefits are good too. The annual work trips are definitely a perk. Co-workers are friendly and professional.

Kontras

For more seasoned folks, CardFlight can be challenging. Things move really slow, so if you are here to chase that bag 💰, CardFlight will test your patience. Unfortunately, CardFlight is not immune to office politics. So there's no shortage of sharp elbows, sycophants and back-stabbers. If you are good at this game, you can thrive in leadership. Engineering vision and leadership is lacking. There's a lot of hand wringing and over-thinking and no action. CTO seems more interested in grooming people than actual technology. Management tends to weed out high-performers. So the collective average of engineers is pretty low in terms of skill, experience and proactiveness. I wondered about this when I started two years ago but now it makes sense.
