Pros
- There are some fantastic people at Capella/SEI - Generous PTO, but only if you are salaried or have been there for a long time - They are FINALLY starting to buy into advancing technology, which is ironic, because it's an online university - Working remote - Free food came around often (when we were in the office)
Kontras
Things have been getting progressively worse since we merged with Strayer. I thought I would be in this job very, VERY long term, but I am starting to look elsewhere since opportunities internally are slim and they basically want you to do stretch roles to fill in the gaps for teams who have lost members, but a lot of the time, it's just a dead end because they won't get the funds to backfill a role, so they're just getting the labor done at a lesser cost. We are losing people left and right. It is difficult. Overall, teams are not fully staffed, colleagues are overworked and underpaid and the excuses we get are laughable. Some Academic Coaches have over 800 learners assigned to them. It is INSANE. Your leader REALLY shapes your experience at the company. I have had many leaders in my years that I have worked there, some have been great, some have been downright terrible. I have been harassed/verbally assaulted by a leader and nothing happened, in fact, he's now in a very high leadership role. Sexism, racism, and microaggressions are a thing. They are claiming they are working on diversity, but I can't help but side-eye that. Male leaders promote their "bros" to roles rather than the most qualified person, especially to leadership positions. Then you hear them all chat about how they all go golfing. Merit increases in the past year were hilariously low - they didn't even match the cost of living increase. However, the company didn't have to pay as much for utilities at offices, office supplies, coffee refills, bagel fridays, etc....Then, they laid a bunch of people off, and can't give those who keep the business running an adequate pay increase after the most stressful, difficult, hardworking year we've ever had where we were doing the jobs of our colleagues who were laid off. VERY FRUSTRATING. Most of the time, if you're quiet, you are pushed to be a type-A personality kind of person, which can be stressful Everything is very siloed and there are MANY hoops to jump through to get a project rolling. It is very inefficient and frustrating. Too many meetings. When is there actually time to get things done? The investment in tech that they have made, while good-intentioned, is not adequate. It is all over the place. They have not invested in overall training for staff to understand the new things. Leadership takes the stance of "just let them click around and figure it out" Overall, staff is not tech savvy. This creates a lot of difficulty in communication and getting things done. Our benefits package has gotten a lot worse since the strayer merger. Not a fan. They also reduced things like allowed bereavement time from a week to 3 days. That's messed up. Priorities are all over the place. Sometimes the focus is on the wrong, least important thing.
