      Vorstellungsgespräch

The interview process was very time consuming, and ultimately unprofessional. The initial application itself was of substantial length, asking for anecdotal evidence of personal strengths, weaknesses, and your ability to handle conflict. After submitting my application, I was contacted the next day to set up a phone screening to take place the next week. Despite some technical difficulties on their end (which they attempted to blame me for by claiming they could not hear me because of my poor cell service, despite the fact that I was speaking on a land-line), the questions the recruiter asked were often redundant to those found on the application itself. After successfully navigating this step, I was contacted by another employee to set up an in-person interview. Before this interview takes place, you are required to fill out an online form to provide five professional references, and to complete a Microsoft Excel proficiency test that asks you how to do tasks such as "copy and paste a cell." The in-person interview itself lasts for around 3 hours. You are first placed in a small conference room by yourself, and are given an hour to complete some paperwork (of which consenting to a background check is required) and to take an IQ / personality assessment. Typical questions of this included pattern recognition, math based problems, a grammar assessment, and written responses where you are asked to explain a time when you have gone "above and beyond" for a previous employer. While this is going on, you are able to hear them interviewing other candidates in the neighboring conference room through the thin walls. From there, you are interviewed by four different employees in back-to-back half-hour segments. Overall, this was an ok experience, and none of the questions asked were things you wouldn't be prepared for. However, interaction varied by person, with one resorting to using scare tactics to demonstrate how "serious" this position is and how you can't "screw around." (I don't know anyone who goes into a job thinking this or is just there to have fun...) Upon completion of this interview, I was told I would be contacted within a week with a decision regardless of outcome, and it was mentioned that my scores on the tests were excellent. I was told if I had not heard anything by a certain date, I should contact them because it was a busy time of year for them. Despite a couple of attempts to get in touch with the various contacts that were given to me throughout the process, I never received any further correspondence or response to my emails. Overall, this process seemed to be somewhat of a waste of time. Despite their best efforts, there seemed to be a genuine lack of professionalism that spread throughout the company. Ultimately, this position boils down to being a receptionist, running errands for the CEO, and delivering mail. While they claim there is room for growth and that this position is a chance to try working with a variety of different departments to find your best fit, if they do not see a clearly defined path for you from the beginning, it is obvious they are not interested in pursuing your candidacy. I would not recommend someone waste their time interviewing here. If they are not willing to be professional themselves, I do not see how they can expect that from others.
