Pros

Great Team:- I started my career at venture dive. My teammates were motivated, highly skilled and enthusiastic individuals with a zest for constant learning and growth. Everything I know about software development I learned from them. We also had a great, supportive and very knowledgeable team lead who eventually left. Little did we know this would be the end of the golden era. Nice Office:- During my starting months at venture dive the office space was quite modest but soon enough we expanded and had a pretty nice office on the 12th floor. And in 2018 we even had a game room. But it was not to last (more on that in cons) Private Call Booths:- As the office expanded further, private call rooms were constructed. These are great for giving interviews at better companies A hard working HR:- The HR department is always busy and hard at work on their jobs. +Multiple coffee machines +Flexible working hours The first 2.5 years were exciting

Kontras

An incredible lack of interesting Work:- When I started at venture dive I was young and full of motivation to learn and start coding beautiful, elegant and ground breaking apps. But that was just my fresh graduate naiveté, what I soon realised is that there isn't much work to be done as a [Department X] dev at VD apart from maintenance on one big project on which 20 other engineers were already working and the codebase was pretty much set in stone. There were some smaller projects that came up but there was an abundance of engineers eagerly waiting for some work and you were lucky if you were assigned a new project to work on from scratch. I worked on a handful of other [Department X] projects but only for a short period of 1 or 2 months mostly I worked on other-technology apps. We took this issue up with management and we were told new projects were in the pipeline. This is a very long pipeline as these projects would remain in the pipeline for the remainder of my time at VD. In fact, the new recruit that was hired last year was told about the same pipeline projects right up until the point that he resigned; this year. Corporate creep:- During the early days of VD it had a real start up vibe. Things were chill, work was flexible and the company had an open environment but as the company grew the culture slowly shifted to be more corporate, more buttoned up, the change wasn't overt but the atmosphere had changed. The great game room that was built in 2018 was transformed into a daycare and cafeteria, the game room was all but removed. Moved to a leftover office space acquired on the 11th floor. Employees were told to use the shorthand of VenD and not VD which is just better, this was needless dictatorial control over employees. A lack of importance for [Department X]:- As clients left and new [Department X] projects nowhere to be seen VD pivoted towards client-friendly technologies and established a new department, with [Department X] devs encouraged to learn new skillsets, which made sense since they didn't have much project work to do. Even before they left the company some of my teammates sought to find better departments, so in essence [Department X] was more of a recruitment pool for other departments. A lack of appreciation:- Annual performance reviews evaluate you on multiple attributes such as ownership, initiative taking, keeping the client happy and critical thinking. I was the sole employee assigned to my client for almost two years with never a red flag or grievance raised and the client always happy, I didn't even get an appreciation email. Never got a rating to touch 4 either. I was promoted though, maybe cause all the seniors left but regardless still very grateful. A lack of code quality maintenance on most projects:- Code quality would vary from project to project and mostly it wasn't a big priority, as fast delivery and short time estimates are the number one priority at VD Venture Dive has won many awards "Best place to work at" being the most prominent but if things don't change it's going to remain a frontrunner in the "Best place to leave" category. Of course all this is my subjective experience, I'm sure other people felt differently.
