Technology Manager Fuel Cell Membranes
HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF CHEMISTRY AND THE WORLD
From the frontline to the back office, every Chemours employee is part of something bigger than themselves as together we work to create a better world through the power of our chemistry.
Chemours is a $6.3 billion company with a portfolio of products and processes that enable technologies and products that people use every day in their lives. From cellular phones to lower emission vehicles, to 5G communications and clean energy from hydrogen, we’re collaborating with customers to make these innovations more capable. Simply said, we use our chemistry to change lives, shape markets, and redefine industries—one improvement at a time.
Chemours is seeking a “Technology Manager Fuel Cell Membranes” to join our growing Hydrogen Venture team!
This position will report directly to the Managing Director of our joint venture “THE Mobility F.C. Membrane Company GmbH” in Bietigheim-Bissingen.
In this role you will collaborate within the global technical community of the two parent companies (Chemours and BWT Fumatech), including application development engineers around the world, the global R&D teams, and the market development organization to identify, develop and execute projects that enable the adoption of our Nafion™-based fuel cell membranes and demonstrate the feasibility of new technologies. This role will have a specific focus on external engagements with direct customers as well as other stakeholders / value chain players. This includes participation and engagement in exhibitions and congresses.
We are looking for a technical “intrapreneur” who wants to enable decarbonization and who feels as comfortable in the world of startups as in a multinational corporation.
The position is embedded in our JV, where you will work with a wide variety of customers on fuel cell membranes within the globally expanding hydrogen economy. Your responsibilities further include the understanding of current & upcoming technology trends and the conversion into executable product roadmaps for our R&D and product group.
You will be located in our JV facility in Bietigheim-Bissingen and will also have the opportunity to work remote, in combination with regular travel within Europe and some international travel to the US and Asia (min 30%).
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • You will interact directly with partners, both leadership and technical staff, to identify critical technical questions, devise experimental approaches towards addressing these questions, execute experiments in collaboration with partners and report results of project work.
  • Interact with internal R&D, market development, application development, government affairs and manufacturing technical teams to understand key technical questions that require investigation as well as the breadth of technical capabilities that could be used in support of the JV.
  • Assess sample performance, diagnose, troubleshoot, optimize processing parameters and resolve issues during the development and testing of materials.
  • Analyze data independently, draw statistically-based conclusions and determine next steps.
  • Keep accurate records of experimental trials, customer interactions, governmental and customer contractual obligations.
  • Discuss technical subjects at detailed fundamental and practical levels.
  • Draft and support execution of non-disclosure, grant, joint development, and other legal agreements to enable collaborative technical work.
  • Identify new opportunities for the JV and translate the ideas to executable projects.
  • Self-manage time and resources to get high quality results in the quickest and least costly fashion within limits dictated by maintaining safe operations, customer satisfaction and business impact.
. One expectation over time is to set up your own technology team within the JV.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
. A minimum of a Master’s degree (or similar by experience) in chemistry, materials, polymer science, chemical engineering or related field.
  • 5 to 10 years work experience working with high-performance materials, strong technical aptitude in automotive applications. A minimum of 3 years working experience on fuel cells or fuel cell-related applications will be a strong asset.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in German is a plus for communicating with the local team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communications skills.
  • A strong 'Customer Focus' attitude, and ability to work at the speed of the partner and drive projects to successful commercialization.
  • Passion to learn new technical applications, materials, and performance characterization.
  • Professional integrity to protect proprietary information and intellectual property.
  • Quickly learn and follow all company core value rules and regulations.
