Your role: As the global Head of NCE DMPK you have the opportunity to drive an innovative pipeline and work with international teams. Your main tasks are :

• Lead the initiation and execution of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetic (DMPK) aspects of NCE drug projects for Healthcare (portfolio of around 30 projects) across all therapeutic modalities and indications.
• Manage a world leading DMPK department of ~ 30 internal employees in Darmstadt as a key innovation engine in Drug Discovery Development, supporting portfolio from Early Discovery to Lifecycle Management.
• Attract, coach and develop staff. Ensure constant influx of young talent from universities through strong academic network.
• Create the vision for NCE DMPK and designs the long-term global strategy and operational model for Merck Healthcare research worldwide.
• Ultimate decision-making for all issues associated with pharmacokinetic aspects of NCE drug projects.
• Create a culture of innovation, entrepreneurship and global, collaborative working.
• Assign resources and budget to all projects on a global basis. Ensures departmental performance in terms of quality clinical candidate delivery.
• Accountable for cutting-edge infra-structure including laboratories, automation and robotics, design tools, electronic lab note-books and collaborative IT tools.
• Initiate and lead external collaborations with major external scientific collaborators. Create a climate of externalization and external innovation.
• Resolve highly complex business and scientific problems through excellent scientific judgment and broad research, development and commercial knowledge.
• Member of the Healthcare's Research Unit Leadership Team and the Discovery and Development Technologies leadership team.

Who you are

• Ph.D. and/or Post-Doc in relevant discipline (biology, biochemistry, drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, analytical chemistry...)
• 10+ years in industry, at least 5 of which in managerial roles in R&D.
• Extensive experience in small molecules. Leadership experience in global organizations.
• Strong track record of clinical candidate delivery and publications.
• Hands on experience with regulatory submissions.
• Experience in designing and running high performance DMPK organizations.
• Experience in working with external partners.
• Cross-divisional experience and knowledge
