Virtual panel interview. It was relatively easy and painless, with predictable and fair questions. They are mostly interested in why you want to be in this field. They will also lightly test you with some scenario-based questions.

Signed up for hiring event. It was a video interview. One person interviewed me. The way the DIA treated me was disgusting and unprofessional. The person didn't bother to introduce themselves like a normal human being. The first thing the person said to me was "This interview will take 15 minutes is that ok?" Now I knew from their email and from other people posting their experiences that the interview was supposed to take 45 minutes. From the fact that he said 15 minutes I knew that the DIA had already decided to not hire me and this was going to be a fake interview. And what a surprise very soon after the interview I got a rejection email. Clearly the DIA felt that it would be easier to conduct a fake interview where I had no chance of being hired than to make up an excuse to cancel the interview. I went ahead with the interview which took 26 minutes because I wanted to practice answering behavioral questions as I don't usually get asked these questions. The questions were the same as the questions others have posted here but I think the person asked me only 4 out of 5 questions. Basically if you sign up for one of these recruiting sessions be prepared to be treated poorly. That's how they do things at the DIA. I've had bad interviews but never a fake interview.

Was through a video conference. Quick, simple questions and answers. It was a very friendly call, and the interviewer was someone who is a current employee, working in the same field that I would be working in.

Be careful on what topics you decide to talk about during the interview process. I'm not even referring to political topics or even the agency's mission/goals/overall direction, which (obviously) can be sensitive issues. I struck a nerve on the interviewers when I inquired about DIA's Rank-In-Person (RIP) promotion system (read other GlassDoor reviews on RIP if you are not familiar with it).

The interview process itself was fine, until I got to the very end. I was asked five questions by a 3-person panel, to which the process took about 45 minutes. The panel then lets you ask questions about them and the DIA.

Most of the interview went fine until this point. And when I say fine, I mean that the panel was receptive to my answers and the interview felt more like a conversation until I started asking questions.

My first question was about the RIP promotion system. As a prior federal employee, I specifically asked what it would take to get promoted from a GG-11 to a GG-12. (If you are unfamiliar with the GG system, please look it up). All three interviewers tensed up and looked at one another with concerned looks, until one stated that to be promoted from an 11 to a 12 would require a few years of experience under your belt. I then commented on how that fact was surprising (and specifically used the word "surprising"), and then gave my own anecdote on how my prior federal organization usually just promotes people from an 11 to a 12 after a year.

This turned out to be a disaster, as one of the interviewers shot back and snarkily stated that DIA does not do promotions like that and how "most people think they're entitled to a promotion just for working the bare minimum after a certain amount of time." The other two interviewers chimed in and agreed with her.

At this point the panel's demeanor had changed from friendly to hostile. I tried asking a few more questions but received short answers. I left and found out later that I did not receive an offer with the feedback of having "Poor Interviewing Skills," among other negative feedback.

I went to a hiring event where I was interviewed by a panel of 3 people in a large conference room with dozens of other interviews going on at the same time. They give everyone the same 5 questions, which were even printed out on a piece of paper in front of me. You can take as much time as you need to think about the questions--awkward silence is okay. Just make sure you answer every part of the question in full and stick to the STAR method.

Terrible experience! Was invited to attend a local hiring fair. Arrived early and was quickly brought into a large conference room where there were a multitude of interviews happening. Was told I would have a panel interview but because of a shortage of interviewers was given a one on one interview. The interviewer was awkward and gave me nothing to work with. I saw other tables where the panel engaged with the interviewee and helped them through the questions. Looking back I should have requested to have more than one person since I don’t believe it’s fair that I had one person judge whether or not I was the right fit, when everyone else had at least 2, if not 3, opinions. My interview consisted of 5 questions that had nothing to do with finance, except for one that briefly touched on budgeting. They were all behavioral questions that were just filler questions. My prep was useless. I succinctly answered since I only had one person taking notes and he didn’t try to engage me in any way, just sat there awkwardly staring at me. The interview was supposed to last 45 minutes, but the HR reps explained that because there were 272 people interviewing that day they had to speed up our interviews and cut them down to 15-30 minutes. Once you were done with your brief interview you were led back into the waiting area where we all waited for 4+ hours. There was only a water station with no real option to buy food. They said there was a cafe you could get food and coffee at in the hotel, but when I scoped it out it was merely a bar with a cappuccino machine. You couldn’t leave because you had no idea when your name was going to be called. The HR reps repeatedly came in to give false hope about how many people they were hiring and “processing”. By the end I fully expected an offer because they kept repeating this over and over. After 4 monotonous hours of waiting I was led outside to stand by a far wall where a woman told me I wasn’t getting a conditional offer. They kept saying that if you didn’t get an offer it was because they were compiling helpful feedback for those who weren’t to be hired. My “helpful feedback” which took 4 hours to be compiled was 2 sentences quickly written down on a pad of paper. Basically I answered too quickly. The HR reps were all very gracious and supportive saying that if you didn’t get an offer today it’s not a big deal because most people have to come 2 or 3 times to be hired. What I didn’t understand is that once you get a conditional offer and are cleared to work (4 month process btw) you only get a job when the position actually opens, which I’ve heard takes from 1 year to 18 months! That’s just ridiculous. They need to streamline this process and also make sure those that they are hiring actually have the skills they claim to. Not just ask 5 generic questions that don’t give you the opportunity to prove your skill set. Also, they should invite less people to these events and be more organized overall.

Phone interview was not difficult. Very generic in its nature. Asked basic questions. Asked about security clearances. Asked about prior employers. My experience I had with them. What training I went through. What type of training like as in what certificates and where I attended training.

The interviewers were very welcoming and it was very easy to feel at ease around them. Interview took about 40 minutes and was behavioral. Overall, good interview and the behavioral questions asked were easy to answer.

Met them at a career fair on campus and got an interview for the next day. It was very laid back and entirely behavioral. It went very well, and they told me that I'd hear back within 2 weeks max. Then they ghosted me and everyone else that interviewed with them. It's possible that they're just being extra slow (typical of government), but even if they get back to me in the next month, it'll be way too late because you are required to have a security clearance before starting work with them. i.e. you'd have to wait at LEAST 6 months from the offer date to even step foot in the door, possibly longer. If they hadn't lied, led me on, and ghosted me, I maybe would've liked to work for them.
