Bewerbung

Ich habe mich auf Empfehlung eines Mitarbeiters beworben. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im März 2020 bei Twilio (San Francisco, CA (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

Vorstellungsgespräch

It was a little frustrating. After speaking to the internal recruiter, she set up an interview with someone on a product team. She told me that on the call, I'd need to do an in-depth discovery call with a mock company. I was emailed an outline about coming up with a mock company to set the stage for the call. I spent a lot of time coming up with the agenda, fake customer info for the mock company, and outlining the discovery call as instructed. When the interview finally came around, we didn't talk at all about anything that I had prepared for. At the end of the call, I asked if we'd be doing the mock discovery call at all as I was told and he had no clue what I was talking about. The actual interview was short and unenthusiastic. The hiring manager, from the start, sounded like he was just reading questions from a list with no intent on wanting to dig any deeper. Maybe he was having a bad day or he's just not used to remote interviews. Overall, it was a sour experience from a company I really admire.

I agree and apologize for the miscommunication. We appreciate that you put so much work into our interview and then didn't even get to use that preparation. I have taken this feedback to the team to help us improve and remind us to always put candidate experience first.

Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte mehr als 5 Wochen. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im November 2015 bei Twilio (San Francisco, CA (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

I was contacted by someone from HR almost 4 weeks after submitting my application (I had also contacted someone at Twilio directly whom I had met at a conference, but that person didn't bother to follow up).
The HR screening interview went really well and the recruiter was really nice and helpful.
The phone interview with the hiring manager went relatively well, although he chose to do it while driving so the conversation didn't go as smoothly as I hoped and I had to ask him to repeat his questions multiple times.
I managed to get to the next step, which was an at-home assignment. I spent quite a few hours researching the market and redacting my answer. I tersely heard back from the recruiter 3 days after submitting it that they would not proceed me since they felt they are candidates who were a better fit.
I wrote back to her as well as the hiring manager and asked for more feedback about what I did wrong with the assignment but I never heard back from them. I would understand the lack of feedback after a mere interview that didn't go well (even if a lot of time might have been spent preparing for that interview) but the least I would hope for when actually working many hours on an home assignment is to get some kind of detailed feedback about what was actually expected or what didn't work.
My conclusion about Twilio is that although they are in the communications business, their understanding of communication is that it's a one-way street: you can talk to them, but they don't really feel they have to reply back. They look like a great company, but they don't seem to live up to their Nine Values, especially the "Create Experiences" value ("Inspire confidence and admiration in every interaction someone has with Twilio.")

    Vorstellungsgespräch

Lengthy interview with a lot of smart questions. The interview sold me on working at the company. One interview with a member of sales, two with other product managers, one with an engineer and one with the CEO.

    • Nothing very difficult -- all the questions were thoughtful. One person did ask me to design a UI for a specific task.   Frage beantworten

    Vorstellungsgespräch

The interview was very shallow. The director of product, whose main priority should be to hire the right talent, was very passive and displayed zero interest in the process. Very long feedback cycle.
