Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 7 Wochen. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im April 2020 bei Twilio (Redwood City, CA (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

I enjoyed talking to the team but the interview process took way too long... 7+ weeks from first recruiter phone screen to final interview. Also did not get good follow up time frames and had to chase down recruiter for updates (e.g. was supposed to get an update on a Monday and that turned into the following week). That's not very nice to candidates and I consider that "shenanigans"

HR coordinator reached out and had a basic screening interview. Interviewed with the hiring manager the following week. Didn't hear back after a few days, so I followed up with HR who said they'd get back to me by end of week, and I never heard back. Friend interviewed with them last year and had the same experience. Completely unprofessional and a waste of potential candidates time.

We are disappointed to hear that you did not have a good experience with Twilio. We really try to "Wear our Customer's Shoes" and it sounds like we fell short here. I agree that not hearing back is not respectful and I will be sure to bring this feedback to the team. Thank you for taking the time to provide us the feedback to help us improve.

It was a little frustrating. After speaking to the internal recruiter, she set up an interview with someone on a product team. She told me that on the call, I'd need to do an in-depth discovery call with a mock company. I was emailed an outline about coming up with a mock company to set the stage for the call. I spent a lot of time coming up with the agenda, fake customer info for the mock company, and outlining the discovery call as instructed. When the interview finally came around, we didn't talk at all about anything that I had prepared for. At the end of the call, I asked if we'd be doing the mock discovery call at all as I was told and he had no clue what I was talking about. The actual interview was short and unenthusiastic. The hiring manager, from the start, sounded like he was just reading questions from a list with no intent on wanting to dig any deeper. Maybe he was having a bad day or he's just not used to remote interviews. Overall, it was a sour experience from a company I really admire.

I have been attending many interviews in last 2 months and this was one of the best and was very well planned. Twilio has certain ethics and it is visible from their interview process. I was well informed of the position and responsibilities and knew what I was interviewing for. Due to Covid situation entire interview had to be done remote over video conferencing but was still so well planned that I was surprised. Shout out to all recruiters who are behind all this awesome recruitment process!

The interview started as a standard hackerRank type online test, which then led to a phone screen, and finally an 'in-person' (remote due to covid) 4 hour or so interview process. The interview cadence was very quick overall, which I appreciated, and I had some extra timeline constraints, which they worked to meet as much as possible, which I very much appreciated.

    Internal referral
    Call with internal recruiter
    Video call with hiring manager
Day of back to back interviews consisting of:
    2nd meeting with hiring manager
Interview with someone on the team (process-focused)
    Cultural interview (behavioral questions)
    Mock prospecting call

It was a well thought out process with good people and it had me reflecting on a few things of which I hadn't been consciously aware.

The one thing I wasn't particularly keen on was the interview I had with one of the people on the team in the final round. He showed up half and hour late to a 45 minute interview with a hard stop and had several follow up questions. In the end I was left with maybe 90 seconds to ask questions of my own.

That was the only part of the interview I felt wasn't well run. As I recall, he wasn't included on the calendar invite I received for the interview though his name was listed on the itinerary.

A recruiter, Jess reached out to me. She really empowered me to go after this EA role and provided great insight to what that role would entail and how someone would thrive in that position. She also made me feel like a priority and was supportive throughout each step of the process. She went above and beyond to ensure all my questions were answered and was very prompt with any need that came up.

TLDR: Recruiters and not aligned with hiring managers' expectations leading to mutual disappointment in later round interviews

Was recruited via LinkedIn for a role that matched my title but not experience. Ignored first message for this reason but kept receiving them.

Follow up messages specifically listed how experience was a good fit. Figured that a company this size would do their research and might be targeting me for a specific reason, right? Wrong.

Initial discussion with recruiter "J" was fine, but he seemed very green and out of his depth, fumbled when reading the job description a few times.

I mentioned my level of technicality and how it might not be a good fit, but he suggested that this was one of several roles hiring for that office and that I might be fit into those later in the process.

I asked about whether Dev Ops would be a part of the role, which is rare for DX platforms, he didn't know.

2nd interview by phone with hiring manager, but was called a "phone screen"

I had prepared for the technicality of the role and could speak to the platform, but since developers were the main customer, I did not prepare for client facing role plays.

Manager "D" was not happy to be there that day and audibly sighed multiple times before starting the conversation.

He explained his past at the company in under 30 seconds and explained the format without any enthusiasm.

He asked two basic questions about my day-to-day and why I was leaving my current company then started warning me about the technicality of the position.

I told him that I brought this up in the first screening but had prepared for the discussion and explained how it fit into my career path.

We then went into a client role play which completely caught me off guard.

100% my fault for not preparing better, but when the first mention of the role being client-facing was within this second interview, it didn't seem as important as the technical understanding.

I managed to provide answers to all questions but should have slowed down and explained my framework.

No more questions were asked so none of the technical / platform prep or any other product related experience mattered.

Interviewer finally seemed to open up when I asked questions to him, but not much chance to explain much about myself at that point.

Overall the experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth because:

    1) Recruiter did not seem to have a good grasp of whether I was a good fit for the role, could not answer technical question relevant to the 2nd interview, and did not explain the client-facing responsibilities which were key to preparing for the 2nd interview

    2) Hiring manager seemed frustrated before I even spoke to him, seemed to resent the prompt / questions he had to ask, and probably should have coordinated much better with the recruiter on the importance candidate experience instead of taking it out on a candidate during an interview

    3) Ultimately I feel like I wasted my time, was not well evaluated as a candidate, and would recommend that anyone working with Twilio not trust everything their recruiters say to get you into the 2nd interview.

If you personally don't feel like your experience is a good fit, don't interview.

It's not worth making a bad impression to just fill a recruiter's minimum interviewee quota .

1st phone call with a recruiter wasn't too hard or bad. Then they ask you to do a role-playing exercise for the second interview. This was not too hard but too a lot of work. After that I got an automated email that said I would not be selected for the next round. If someone spends hours prepping for an interview the very least you can do is send a HUMAN response back. Very disrespectful!
