    Bewerbung

Ich habe mich über einen Personalvermittler beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte mehr als 2 Monate. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im Dezember 2019 bei Socialpoint (Barcelona (Spanien)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

The interview spanned across more than 2 months, and involved a first Skype interview, practical case, 2 interviews commenting said case and an on-site, full day interview.

Up until the on-site, the process was very satisfactory. Active feedback, intelligent questions and on-time interviews. The practical case was lengthy and touched on a variety of cross-platform questions.

The on-site interview was conducted in a very professional way too, and I got to interact with many different people from diverse areas in the company, as well as a guided tour of their offices.

I was told I would get an answer within 2-4 days. I got in touch with the external recruiter 6 days later, and was told they needed a 2 weeks more to decide. I contacted again with the recruiter once this period passed, only to be notified that the position was on hold as they had not seen enough people to find the perfect fit.

I was never contacted by Social Point again, given any feedback or received any e-mail. A perfect process (in which it's completely understandable to get discarded), tainted by quite an unprofessional approach in the end. I also cannot understand what is the rationale behind asking someone to invest a whole working day for an interview when the company is not ready to select a candidate among the finalists.

Hopefully they review their processes to avoid situations like this in the future.

The process was quite long, since there were a lot of phases to go through. I would have appreciated some more information to get to know all the steps. I started with a phone call, followed by a case I needed to do from home. Afterwards, I had to do a casa again in front of some members of the team and I had several interviews with HR, the team and management.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

The interview process was quite lengthy. Nonetheless, I was kept updated and all my questions were answered throughout. All interaction with HR friendly, polite and professional. I was contacted first through LinkedIn, and then asked to have a phone call with HR, followed by a Skype interview, and finally a 1-1 interview with each of the individual departments I may work with.

    Systems Engineer-Vorstellungsgespräch

    Bewerbung

Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 1 Tag. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im Mai 2019 bei Socialpoint (Barcelona (Spanien)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

I saw a Systems Engineer position at their website more than one year ago. Seemed interesting so I applied. No news at all.

Months later got an email from one recruiter from an recruiting agency, offering me the same position: Ok let's go ahead.

Days later the recruiter tells me that they are not interested on me, because I've been already in process with them.
    - "What? I've never talked or been in contact with them."
    - "Sorry man, it is the client decision."

Several months later I receive an email from Social Point HR:
    - "We want to interview you for a Systems Engineer position".
    - "Ok, let's go ahead!"

I had an Skype interview with HR:

She tells me on the chat that she's in a meeting that is taking longer than expected to complete. In fact, the reason is that the meeting started late. How about having the interview in... 45 minutes.

I wonder what could happen if things were in the other way: me having to postpone the interview 45 min for whatever the reason... Ok ok,.. no problem. See you in 45 min.

45 min later the interview starts. After some introductory words, she fires the first question:

    - "Explain me what have you been doing in the last year."

I explain to she my last year at my current employer.

She fires again, and this time the shot comes from my back:

    - "Ok. Do you have experience developing in Java?"

    - "What? I'm not a developer. And this is a Systems Engineer role. I have some knowledge about Java, and I've developed some applications for personal interest, but I'm far to consider myself a professional Java developer. And honestly, if you're looking for someone to cover both roles efficiently, believe me: it is going to be really difficult to find it."

    - "We know, but our current sysadmins are doing this kind of job, and we want to hire another individual with the same capabilities, even knowing that it is hard to find."

Some nice words finishing the interview from their side , and that's all.

I think it is one of the weirdest and unprofessional recruiting processes I've had in my 31 years professional career, and believe me: I've done dozens of them.

Guys at Social Point: developers are developers. They build the product you are selling. Sysadmin are sysadmins. They build, monitor and keep up the infrastructure your products live on, and also the infrastructure that your developers and QA team need to do their work, not to mention the deployment pipelines among other things. Dev or QA taking care of that, means that they are not doing their work: build the product that your company sells. Not to mention DBAs: it is quite common to consider that a sysadmin can do the work of a DBA. A sysadmin can do SOME database management, but if your are doing serious business, believe me: HIRE DBAs.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

I got a mail the day after applying for the job to schedule a remote interview.

During the interview we talked about my motivations to join Social Point and my background, and resolved any questions I had.

The next step was a technical test related to the job I was applying for, and after its review I had a remote interview with one of the project managers in which we talked about the test and the role I would fill in the team.

The last step was a series of interviews with the Product Director, Product Manager, Product HR buddy and the HR that guided me through all the process, and a tour around the offices.

Every person involved in the selection process was super friendly and professional.

    Bewerbung

The interview process involved meeting various people from Social Point to discuss various things related to me and Social Point. My first contact was my recruiter who was very nice and super helpful. She asked me less technical questions and more about my soft-skills to see if I fit in with the Social Point teams. Once this phase was completed I did an online technical test. This test was via a number of questions solved online and lasted in total 48 hours. Then I interviewed with 3 technical guys in 2 different meetings. In both of the meetings I was asked some technical questions and some questions related to soft skills to see my technical competence and my fit with the team. One of these meetings was with members of my team while another was with another technical guy outside my current team. I also had a short meeting with another HR member who was not the recruiter to discuss again my fit and soft-skills. Finally I also had a meeting with my studio head who wanted to share some more information about what I would be working on and so on.

It was a long process, but nothing unusual. There were some questions that were repeated, but it is normal, considering the amount of people involved in the process. Overall, it was a good experience.
