    Bewerbung

Ich habe mich über einen Personalvermittler beworben. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert bei Sauce Labs (San Francisco, CA (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

I had a couple of phone screens, then had a full round of individual interviews with engineers on the team. Some interviews had coding challenges, and others did not, but none focused on algorithms. All interviewers were very kind and the interviews were low pressure.

Great (but long) process with great people. Talked to several teams remotely over a few weeks, and got to know them and their culture well. Their teams are passionate and well-managed, and look for people who are the same. Would highly recommend.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

I applied to a posted position then had a phone call with the hiring manager. She had me come in in to meet the rest of her team but weeks in the future because people were OOO. I came in to meet the team but it felt very "non-committal." For example, I met with a member of a product team that the posted role had no involvement with. Most of the interviewees were reading questions off their laptop or notepad which felt very inorganic. Ultimately, they decided to put the position on hold, which I could already tell based on the time that had passed and the nature of the interviews. I wish they would have communicated that to me earlier as I could then have made a decision about whether to come in (and take a day off from work) to interview. The team was very nice and they gave me a swag bag but ultimately that didn't really matter as much as what felt like a waste of my day.

Well organized, 2 phone screens, multiple on-sites across 2 days. The last on-site got added on. The recruitment team was very well organized. The emphasis on culture stood out right from my first interaction onwards.

Started with Phone Screen, coding challenge, and onsite. The interview coordinator very well organized the all the interviews from start to end. The onsite interview was pretty welcome. I had a goody bag with water, snacks etc which was pretty nice gesture for an interview which is usually stressful. Overall, I felt the people, the process, the company a genuine and accepted the offer.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

My personal journey / interview process at Sauce Labs started out strong, though ended on a sad note - but was overall one of the most thoughtful and intricate processes I've experienced so far with any company I've met with.
Bittersweet, and by no means an "easy" process, to say the least.

From the first email to the last phone call, Tristan (recruiting coordinator) was as proactive via email as he was in person (providing snacks, water, a welcome letter, complimentary lunch, tours, etc), and accommodating where he could be, even going out of his way to make sure I had an idea of what to expect at each stage of the process.
He was encouraging, exuberant and personified the "culture" that we all so desperately want to find as job-seekers.

The first round was a phone screen by a CSM Manager who asked basic questions about my experience, salary expectations.
After this initial call, I was invited on-site for a 1st round of interviews.

As I work 50-60 hours a week minimum, this next point irritates me (and by no means is Sauce Labs the only company that does this):

The total time spent interviewing/preparing for this hiring process:
-Phone screen interview = (1 hour)
    -1st round on-site interview with 8 total people = (3.5 - 4 hours)
    - 2nd round on-site interview/presentation = 3 people (3.5-4 hours (prep and presenting)
-Preparing for said interviews (2+ hours)
(This time estimation is rather generous, as I dedicated every free second I had to prepping and researching.)

I wasn't really prepared initially to commit this much time to the process, though rolled with the punches of factoring in these hours to my current FT job.
For those with inflexible work schedules, this may pose a serious issue.

The first round of 7 1:1 interviews on-site were enjoyable though exhausting (even though the VP of CS was distracted by his phone repeatedly during our interview).

The second interview happened 3 business days after the first, where I was asked to prepare for a role-playing Kick-Off call (and to prepare a presentation in front of 3 employees). The expectations/guidelines for this were presented two business days before I was to give this presentation, in the middle of the busiest week of my professional career.

The role-play guidelines stated, among other things, that technical questions about the product would not be emphasized/highlighted - I ignored this and studied anyways, and I'm glad I did.

Behold! I was indeed asked technical questions about the product as well as infosec, procedural, product-related (and frankly, some really weird "what will you do when, as a customer, I am inevitably unhappy with your performance 6 months into our future contract?" -type) questions.

I walked out feeling accomplished for pulling this task off in less than 48 hrs - but with a sinking feeling in my stomach knowing that it wasn't enough time to adequately prepare.
The post-interview follow-up and the interviewing panel's collective feedback felt unfair, as much of the decision not to move forward was based on very limited interactions and incorrect assumptions about me as a candidate. The positive feedback was glowing and was weird to hear on top of the negative.

This overall post-interview turnout was infinitely better than being "ghosted" or receiving automated rejection emails after two grueling weeks of interviewing, so I was grateful for that much.

So - to give feedback in return (from the perspective of a prospective candidate who "experienced" a glimpse of Sauce Labs' culture and business practices):

-Interviewers: Remember to treat candidates as human beings (not just as bodies/robots to fill job positions) and to also consider a candidate's overall value potential appropriately.

I left this experience very humbled and appreciative of the Sauce Labs culture, in spite of not receiving an offer. Hopefully this review helps another potential candidate dodge the bullets and get through the final round successfully!

I loved my interview experience with Sauce. Having interviewed with big companies with Apple (accepted offer), Google/YouTube (accepted offer), as well as small startups, this was one of the best I've ever had. I was approached by a recruiter via email to set up an initial phone screen. My phone screen ended up being a video call with the VP! From there the next screen was a video call with the hiring manager. They circled back to pow wow, and then decided to bring me onsite to interview with around 6 people over 3 hours. I had told them I was in the final stages of interviews with two other companies, so they expedited my interview process over 4 days - incredible! It made me feel both valued and respected as a candidate. The onsite was absolutely lovely. The recruiting team makes sure you feel welcomed and comfortable, and the care and personalization they put into all the little touches made me feel secure in knowing that Sauce would take care of me as an employee. 5 months later, and I am loving my time with this company.

    • One of the best moments of my interviews was when the interviewers called me out for not having been in the exact position in the past. I.E. You've never been a CSM before. What skills do you have that might be applicable, and why do you want to move into this position?   1 Antwort

    Vorstellungsgespräch

Was contacted by a recruiter. 2 weeks later I had a skype interview with the manager of support. the interview went well, at least seemingly so.

I was asked "the next step is usually take a test, do you want to take it?"

I say Yes, i dont hear anything from them for 2 weeks, i have to email them again and ask to take it and we schedule it

i take the test, which was fairly easy, questions about the DOM, knowing html/css, knowing selenium commands, knowing some java. all very basic

i fulfilled everything 100%, despite completing everything, i hear nothing back. i have to email them AGAIN just to hear anything.

they did not give me an offer, which was fine. but when they gave no offer, not even any words as to why they are rejecting you, just got an email of "sorry we're going to move on to the next one"

very unprofessional. i do not recommend. they will just waste your time taking a 2-3 hour test. and they will also waste the 5-6 weeks they pull you around, at least thats how it was for me with the lack of communication
