Vorstellungsgespräch

From first to last contact was nearly exactly 30 days. The steps completed were (1) conversation with the recruiter, (2) conversation with the hiring manager, and (3) conversation with the hiring manager's boss. The final step we never got to would have been a panel presentation. Literally in the last minute of the meeting with the hiring manager's boss, he stated that he (a) doubted that I could grasp the products Salesforce markets and (b) didn't think I could handle the activity metrics associated with the role. It's worth noting that at no point did we cover my previous activity metrics or the metrics of the role. We also never touched on what I knew or didn't know about the core product suite or other products that had been sold. His stated goal in our conversation was to understand who I was outside of work, and that's where the conversations and questions centered. As the mention of metrics and product knowledge literally came up when his next call was to start (back to back meetings), I responded to his claim that I wouldn't be able to grasp the products post interview saying that I already knew and had used the core product suite and I also had knowledge of ancillary products. This, plus Salesforce's customary use of overlay reps should effectively cover any concerns he has regarding getting up to speed on product knowledge. As far as metrics were concerned, I asked him what his definition of rigorous was as we'd never covered what was required for the role or my level of activity elsewhere. The recruiters I worked with subsequently informed me that he wanted to have a second 30 minute conversation with me to go over the requirements in the role. This deviated from the interview process as it was originally laid out. Ultimately however, this second meeting never materialized as he neither accepted nor rejected the meeting time proposed by one of the recruiters based on our calendar availability. Two days after the proposed time for when the second part of our conversation was supposed to have taken place, one of the recruiters and I caught up and she told me that they would not be moving forward with my candidacy as there was someone else to whom they intended to make an offer. I inquired what it was about the candidate that had them shutting down the interview process before an offer was extended, much less accepted; I was basically given the non-answer that the feedback had been great from the hiring team and that really liked me and wanted to get me out to other opportunities within the company. The roles both turned out to be mid-market, and I let the recruiter know that I was passing on both. I'm an enterprise rep who's always been top ranked within my organizations; I don't know why anyone would think I'd take a pay cut and demotion to work at the company. Besides, I was specially interested in the use case and impact of the enterprise non-profit space; The space they play in isn't otherwise interesting to me with the *possible* exception of Tableau and that's only because I'm studying data science for funsies. While the experience wasn't positive- and in all fairness, I really liked the women I would have been working for. The's a total boss, emotionally intelligent, and an exquisite salesperson- I would categorize the interview process as neutral rather than negative because there was a question in the back of my mind as to whether I was martyring my future career prospects to save the world. I think things worked out for the best; I'm in the reference stage with two great opportunities. I'm going into the final round with a top rated company with a better benefits and comp package. I've been talking to orgs with really exciting solutions and at very exciting times in their journeys as companies. And no one else is asking me to take a pay cut or demotion.

It was a bit of a lengthy process as I got assigned to a more senior role than the one I have applied for, which increased the number of interviews required to complete the process. This was after the interview with the Hiring Manager for the first role. 5 interviews total, including a panel presentation. Got offered the job. General vibe was very positive and interviewing team put me at ease. The interviewing team and recruiters were very professional and I was well impressed.

This is a clever way to approach an interview because it tests candidates based on competences and behaviors demonstrated in real situations, which is more effective than "what if" types of questions.
