Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 3 Tage. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert bei Rockstar Games.

Standard QA Testing, do stuff from a sheet in allocated time then face to face interview. You are kept to one room so you do not see the other workers nor get to ask them about their opinion on working there or other. It's all very cryptic and unfriendly.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

Began with an online application. After a couple of weeks I got an email which asked about arranging an interview. Then I did a phone interview then an offer, and got an offer about a week later. All in all took about a month.

    Junior Mission/Technical Scripter-Vorstellungsgespräch

    Bewerbung

Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte mehr als 5 Monate. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im September 2019 bei Rockstar Games (Edinburgh, Schottland (Vereinigtes Königreich)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

Applied in April 2019. Got a response almost two months later. The recuiter asked me to send code samples (the only recruiter ever to actually simply ask for code samples instead of automatically rejecting candidate). Some time after I sent them code samples, they gave me a link to a website where you have to record with a webcam your answers on 5 questions regarding mostly your experience with games made by the company. For me it was a great idea - interviews with real people are always more stressfull, so I could relax more and I also felt more confident when it came to phone interviews.

After face-to-webcam interview I had two phone interviews. No hard technical questions were asked, these interviews were mostly about my experience with the company and their games (what Rockstar games I've played, what I liked about them, what I disliked about them...) and also about my background and projects I've worked on. After the second phone interview I got an online programming test to solve and send back. The test consisted of three tasks. The first two were programming tasks, nothing too tough and you can easily solve them in the given time limit, but they might seem a bit tricky at first. The third task was to design an open world side activity for the first Red Dead Redemption game.

Finally, I received an invitation for the face-to-face interview in Edinburgh. The company has paid for the flight and the hotel. They also provide detailed description on how to get to their office, the best means of transport and also some info about interesting places to visit in Edinburgh. The interview itself was also rather simple and once again mostly about my background, my projects, but this time a few technical questions were asked (one of them required me to explain my solution to one of the programming tasks from the test). We also spoke about my role in the company, how my job would look like on everyday basis.

Unfortunately, I did not receive an offer. A few weeks after the final interview, I got an e-mail from the recruiter saying I don't have strong enough technical skills.

While it was a very long recruitment process, it was also one of the best I ever took part in. Everyone was very friendly and kind (on a professional level). If only you can repay with kindness, you'll have great talks with all recruiters (during the final interview we even just talked a bit about our favorite games overall, how do I like it in Edinburgh). The process took 5 months, but thanks to a number of interviews, programming test and code samples I sent I have a feeling my skills were evaluated correctly and the company's simply honest in rejecting my application. I believe everything depends on your attitude - I knew well that there would be a lot of work at Rockstar if I get the job, so I also took my time to think if I really want to work there. I've made up my mind to pursue a career at this company, because most of all I like their games and they're challenging technically, so I would definitely enjoy working on cool, amazing games like theirs. During the whole recruitment process I felt like the company's really looking for passionate developers, not just programmers and designers, but guys who share the same passion for video game making.

    Fragen im Vorstellungsgespräch

    • Nothing above standard interview questions, but one thing to note is that many questions are about the company's background and projects, so if you're not familiar with GTA or RDR at least, you should rethink sending them your application.

How do you feel about making fundamental changes to the game's design even far in the development process?   1 Antwort
