Vorstellungsgespräch

Went in for brief, about 5 min, interview where the position was described as training program for managers in new branches they were attempting to open. I was told I would be coming back for a second round interview. During this second round interview I was paired with a current employee and brought with a group of other candidates on a subway ride to Brooklyn. Once there we went off on our own going door to door requesting residents to sign up to donate for clean water in a non-specific part of the world. The residents were required to submit credit card information as cash was not accepted. From the beginning I was told to ask lots of questions during the day. Each time I brought up the question about salary or pay it was deflected in some way. Finally after breaking for lunch I learned that the base salary would be about $200 per week and the rest commission. At this point I thanked my interviewer and left for the subway.

Quick. Which is ideal if you need to get into work asap. You meet a lot of 'people in high places' within the company, which I find useful as I get to see where I could be on the ladder if I work hard.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

They set up an appointment. Despite the image that they promote of being a happening company with offices all over the world, in New York City the interview was in a crummy efficiency office with a shared receptionist. Some candidates there to interview were called in pairs, but I was interviewed alone. The guy interviewing me appeared red-faced, hung over, and not the least bit interested in being there. Told me nothing about the company, asked only the most cliché questions. Whole interview was less than 10 minutes, but after 5, I couldn't wait to be out of there. Should have checked Glass Door first, wouldn't have wasted my time.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

During my first round interview, I was hurried through the process and was told to ask any questions I had if I got called back to a second round interview. I did - turned out I was to spend the day shadowing an employee. Contrary to job titles and (minimal) descriptions given in the pre-interview emails, it turned out to be an incredibly poorly run (super disorganized) and sleazy door-to-door sales job masquerading as "customer service." Many of the employees I worked and spoke with were in their late teens, clearly hoping to get their foot in the door - or *a* door, anyway. And the two people I observed on the job clearly weren't fully familiarized with what they were selling. (I unfortunately also got to watch quite a bit of outright lying about what they were selling, as well as about competitors, as well as some bullying of people who answered the door.) The management seemed iffy from what interactions I had, and the junior staff varied from naive to actively sleazy. Over the phone - pre-interview - everybody was friendly and helpful, but in person, I got an incredibly gross vibe from them.
