Bewerbung

Ich habe mich über eine Hochschule oder Universität beworben. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert bei PNC Financial Services Group (Philadelphia, PA (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

Vorstellungsgespräch

Meet the recruiter at an on-campus career fair. I received a phone call about setting up a first round interview (over the phone) with an employee at PNC. It was pretty simple. Basic behavioral questions about my resume experience and why I was interested in working with the company.

I received a call back saying I was invited to Super Day for second round interviews and networking in Pittsburgh. I interviewed with two individuals. The questions were more tech based (eg. my experience with any technology, how did i use it in previous internships and school, etc.) and a few behavioral.

PNC visited my school's career fair. I made casual conversation with one of their boothers and he had me write my name down for an interview that day. Had a 30-45 minute interview technical manager. Got a call about a week later with an invitation to participate in PNC's 'Super Day' interviews. That process consisted of an open bar style happy hour the night before the interview with those that you will be interviewing. The next day, it was 3 interviews with managers spread across different teams for about 45 minutes to an hour each. Sent thank you emails. Everyone responded which was great. One actually slipped and said congratulations before I had the offer.

Applied online. Within a week had a phone screen with HR, and was invited to attend superday at the Pittsburgh headquarters. Interviewed with two different people, 30 minutes each. The entire process took about 3 weeks.

I interviewed with them at Grace Hopper and then went to an on-site. The on-site was two 30-minute interviews, but we had to be there from 7:30am to 1pm in a "holding room" with all the other candidates and a few PNC employees, "networking."

    Vorstellungsgespräch

I first sent in an application, and was contacted several weeks later about a phone interview. Throughout the phone interview the interviewer just asked me to talk about my resume, and we eventually just had a pretty casual conversation regarding our own personal lives. Really easy and relaxed discussion. I was then called several weeks later being invited to PNC Super Day. The super day was only six days from when I was called so it was a bit hectic to get ready. PNC offered to fly me there and also put me in a hotel and paid for all of my food, so that was really nice of them. The super day consisted first of a 2 hr social event where we all just walked around meeting employees and discussing their roles there. Definitely a great way to introduce yourself to your interviewers, I would highly recommend taking advantage of this time. The next day we sat in a small room with all of the other candidates and waited until it was our time to interview. There were two interviews with two different people. Both were pretty easy, there were still no technical questions, but some of the questions were a bit tougher than the phone interview. After we finished both interviews we were allowed to leave, but i stayed to eat lunch and talk to the Peer Hosts, or people currently in the new hire program. In conclusion, everyone was very nice throughout the entire process and I would recommend doing it simply for the experience.

I attended a campus career fair at the beginning of October as a current student, which led to round one of interviewing and me declining round two.

Upon submitting my resume to the PNC booth, they said they would contact me for the round of interviews the next day. I figured this was a canned response since other people that had spoken with the technology representative received that as well. However, they actually did get back to me by email at 6pm that night wanting to know by 8pm when the next day would be best for an on campus interview. I had work that night, but because I was checking my email then, I was able to respond in time.

The next day, I had an interview for after lunch and before my courses for the day began. Sat down with two of the recruiters from the technology department and they switched off between who was asking questions and taking notes. They were standard questions about why I wanted to go into technology in the financial sector, what technical experience I had, classroom experiences, etc. The interview lasted almost an hour. They said that the program only hired about a fourth of the people who go into it and that I would be hearing about round two of interviews in about two weeks.

Exactly a week after the career fair, I received an email stating that round two of interviews would start the next day! It was to be a networking session from 6pm to 8pm, then the entire day after (I think it was 7:30am to 4pm, but I could be mistaken) would be round two of interviews with the people actually in charge of the various sectors of the development program and would be much more technical than round one.

I called the recruiter who sent the email and declined due to scheduling conflicts as going to an interview for a program that only hires a forth of their employees was not worth finding transportation to Pittsburgh headquarters on such short notice. Apparently my interviewers had the wrong information and that the program actually hired 90% that join it, with the other 10% opting out of it due to not finding the right fit during the training. The discrepancy in information seemed to reflect that the departments have poor communication. The recruiter I called said they could try working something out for later in the week, but that by the next week, they already will have hired for the program and I would have to reapply for the next round in the spring. That would not work for me due to working alone and having no one to cover multiple shifts on such short notice, and it was midterm week, so professors would not be able to accommodate me missing exams on such short notice.

Overall, it seemed way too quick of a process to me. It could be that it was just my first professional interview, but having all this occur within the first week of contacting them was daunting, especially with being told two completely different pieces of key information about the program. My career counselor asked me about it when I met with him a month later, and he seemed surprised that they actually went through with giving me less than a day between giving them my resume and having round one.

My apologies for this being long winded, but I wanted to be detailed while I still remembered it.

Ich habe mich über einen Personalvermittler beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 3 Wochen. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im Oktober 2015 bei PNC Financial Services Group (Cleveland, OH (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

The interview process was pretty streamlined. First, an on campus interview. Within two weeks I was called and invited to Cleveland for SUPER day, which is just the final round of interviews. After the interview session on a Friday, I received an offer on the following Monday. They gave a presentation on Thursday night about the company, and then interviews were conducted Friday morning. Overall it was a very well organized and impressive process.

Mandatory networking event in the evening before the interview. On the day of actual interview, one is with an HR and one is with a tech interviewer, but no tech question asked. Questions were focused on project management, collaboration/team work, and value-matching between company and person.
