Bewerbung

Ich habe mich über einen Personalvermittler beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 3 Wochen. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im September 2017 bei Houzz (Irvine, CA (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

Vorstellungsgespräch

I was approached by Kirstyn Sullivan on LinkedIn asking if I would be interested in a position at Houzz. I agreed and we scheduled a call to introduce ourselves and see if it would be a good fit. After she told me more about the company and position and I gave my past work experience, we both felt like it would be a good idea to move along. I then had my first in person interview which went well and lead to the role play interview. We weren't able to do the role play interview in person, however, we later did it over the phone the following week.

I was first contacted by a recruiter with whom I had a phone interview with. I then went to an "Open Houzz," where there was a 30-minute presentation covering pretty much the same things discussed with the recruiter. Following this presentation, candidates were directed to another room for individual interviews. I was asked 3 questions and was in this "interview" for less than 5 minutes. I later received notification that I would need to go into another stage in the interview process. I had a face-to-face interview for about 45 minutes, and then completed an assessment in-office. About a week later, I was invited back for the final stage in the interview process, which was a role-play + interview. I was put into a private office alone with a computer and headset, and was given 15 minutes to study a specific product (given) as well as their return process. The woman I was working with made the skype call as a pseudo customer and we proceeded with the role play using various scenarios (return request, received damaged product, etc.) for about 30 minutes. Then it was a standard skype interview. I was informed a week or so later that I was not selected for the position.

I selected that this was a negative experience because of the inconsistency with feedback provided compared to results. I received very positive feedback and each stage of the interview process (I made a point to ask in each follow-up e-mail). Even during the final role-play, the woman I was working with told me that the few things she critiqued would be worked through and easily corrected/taught during the training period for this particular position. After being told I was not selected, I requested feedback again, and was simply told "It was a tough decision, but we needed to go with another more qualified candidate." (Even though this was part of a mass hire where the minimum requirements were a high school diploma ) Just seemed odd to take someone through 4 interviews over the span of 7 weeks for an entry-level position where the essential requirements are being friendly on the phone.

Interview process was easy but extremely lengthy for no effective reason. As the reviews said, there are multiple steps to the interview. I experienced 3 steps: 20-min phone interview, 30 min presentation 5 min interview (speed dating), 1 hr Skype interview with case study (4 problems in 15 minutes). First interview was great, they were overly impressed with my resume, easy typical customer service questions, and they liked I knew about the brand from the beginning as a user. Second interview, complete waste of time. I was told via email from California contact that the interview started at 5:00 PM. I got they're a 15 min early, since it's in downtown and rush hour. Did they Presentation didn't start until 5:45 PM, no apologies for starting late or respect of our time. Very unprofessional. Presenter was in town from California, seemed nice but scatter brained and not tech savvy for a tech brand rep. Presentation kept me interested about the company but nothing I didn't already learn through the phone interview. Speed dating interview was brief and not as deep as the phone interview I had the week before. Interviewer seemed too stressed with office responsibilities to be present during the interview. Overall, I think it's in their best interest to scrap this part. Waste of money for them and time for us. The only benefit, I would assume, to see how you look or to sell you on how great they are or not. I got called back for the 3rd interview which was Skype interview with another rep in California. The interviewer, seemed uninterested in the interview, stressed, common thread I guess? I have wealth of experience in almost 10 years graduation from college. However, the interviewer seemed more focused on my high school and college jobs, clubs I was involved with, GPA, how much I made on my W2 last year, and how I got every job, what my role was, and why I left. Recent experience, I understand why, but my filing job in high school is not relevant. Interview was not an organic free-flowing, instead she was reading questions off a list, forced half-smiling here and there. Such a painfully awkward conversation for an outgoing person as myself. The longer the interview went the less I became interested in the company. Interview ended with having to complete a case study, solve 4 customer service issues in 15 minutes. Easy but no direction on how to answer the questions not knowing company's customer service policy. Only briefed on product return policy, which only works for 1 question. Interview process is lengthy and confusing because they want someone qualified with professional experience, overachievers, but they're interview questions are targeting someone who's just graduating from college. Not for me, but hope it's great for you. Let's be honest, it's a glorified call center position, an entry-role. They should know by the first interview, let alone second (real second should be Skype interview), if they want you or not. Complete waste of time and intensity for an entry-role position. Seems like a great company with potential but they're definitely unorganized and need help tightening the ropes in their operation.

There are 3 actual interviews with an introductory phone call to kick off the entire process. In going through the process, I felt like what I would be doing if hired was incredibly important and valued by other workers at Houzz because it seemed to be a very thorough process. However, I am grateful that I kept confirming information I was given previously as I moved through the process because it seemed that I was either given outdated information or I was purposefully being misled. During my second interview on Skype, I asked about compensation. The hiring manager I interviewed with said that I would be making mid- to upper-30's depending upon my performance. He then said I would be guaranteed a starting wage of $17. During my final interview, I asked to confirm this information with the hiring manager I was interviewing with and she informed me that the starting wage is $15/hour. I already felt like $17 an hour for just earning my Bachelor's degree was low and was insulted at the $15.

After the second interview, there was a pop quiz where a Google doc was shared with me and I was asked to complete as much of the worksheet in 15 minutes.

I didn't want to believe the terrible interviews about Houzz. I am all about the benefit of the doubt. My initial interview went amazing. The conversation was a thorough, organic, professional, mature conversation. It wasn't heavily formatted though I was asked about my college years, clubs I was in, my background in customer service and my interests. The second interview was over Skype with a representative from San Diego. I thrive in interviews. I thoroughly prepared hoping it wouldn't solely surround the irrelevant list I was given a few days prior. As a 26 year old who has been out of college a few years and is a thriving professional, I felt ostracized by the questions that target entry level sorority girls. The worst part was the person interviewing me was disgustingly shallow. She had zero interest in who I am or how I could be an asset to the company. She wanted to zip through the list, as she posed in the camera and fixed her hair and said "like" incessantly. I left hoping I wouldn't get an offer because the first rep was amazing and the second was terrible. I couldn't gage a face for the company. I certainly don't feel it's a place for anyone normal, professional or with any level of depth or authenticity to thrive. I was grateful for my dry office job to break my fall when I got the email saying they wouldn't pursue me further. I wouldn't recommend Houzz to anyone. ESPECIALLY not young twenty something's. Get a career started in a small company with actual adults you can glean wisdom from. Don't apply here. The terrible reviews are true.

Three part interview process. I was recruited via LinkedIn, after which I had a pleasant telephone interview. Afterwards I had another pleasant Skype interview. About two hours after the Skype interview, I was invited to the Nashville office for the third part of the interview which consisted of a roleplay and another Skype interview. The interviewer was 20 minutes late. The roleplay was okay, but extremely awkward due to my obvious lack of training and no background regarding the website or such a telephone call. The Skype interview itself was extremely negative, it was centered solely on my weaknesses, talking about my negative experiences and attributes, ect.. He couldn't seem to crack a smile and he acted as though he had something better to do.

I attended an "Open Houzz" Came in with a group. Watched an 10 to 15 min presentation on what "Houzz" is about, and what you would be doing in the position applied for. After the video we then waited to be called individually for our race 1st round of interviews. I chatted with the other canidates and made small talk. I even saw someone I've worked with before!! We went thru the app that "Houzz" offers talked about their products!! I was stoked!! I was called up for the 1st intetview...It went great!! The "Houzz"employees are outgoing, inviting, and overall welcoming!! I made it past the 1st interview!! Yayy!! Then I was scheduled for an final/ role play interview for the next day!! Final/ role play intetview included an recruiter that called in and stated that we sent her the wrong color for the pillow that she ordered. This is where you would need to know how to empathize and sympathize, and be convincing to make the customer at ease and happy!! I did great on that portion, even the recruiter stated I did great!! The final interview was with the same recruiter I had the role play with. It was more in detail about my past employment, what I liked disliked. We went over salary, hours of operation, pto, company paid insurance, do you have any planned trips. This overall experience was great!!!! Background check has been started, now I'm just waiting on the phone call with the offer to start!! Fingers crossed!!

This is one of the most lengthly, over-the-top interview processes for a menial position. It started with a 30-minute interview with a recruiter, then a group presentation that sells you the idea of working for Houzz that ends with a quick 3 question interview, next is an hour long Skype interview, and then a final in-person interview and role-play. Throughout this process, you also have to fill out a detailed questionnaire and an exercise with their return policy. In the role-play, you are expected to solve the issue without any training on what can and can't be done. This whole process took 5.5 hours. Ridiculous waste of everyone's time.

The first initial interview was a phone interview. This interview was very brief and very easy. Mostly just telling me about the company and about the job. I got through to the next round and that was a brief in person 5 minute interview and also a presentation was given before. Once I got through that it was about an hour 1 on 1 interview and then a shadowing process.

Possibly the least productive p2p interview I've ever heard of. Over the phone screening, group interview, then p2p interview.

3rd interview: interviewer asked questions directly related to my schooling and college volunteering, none referring to my field experience or related work experience. I was not aware that customer support required so much college volunteering hours and semester hours. Interviewer was very interested in how many semesters I completed, the exact year and my majors. Interviewer was also not aware of what a "coding major" was, which worried me greatly since Houzz is considered a tech savvy business.
