Was reached out to by a recruiter to see if I had interest in talking about a possible position within the firm. Had the exploratory call and then was passed along to the hiring manager. After a 90 minute conversation with her on the phone, she asked if I would be interested in interviewing with another member of the team, which I did on another phone interview that lasted an hour.

Was then brought in to do interviews with members of the team in person, which in total was about 5 hours. At the end of the last interview, with the hiring manager again, I was told that my skills were likely better suited for another position and that she would pass my resume along to the hiring manager of that position to see if they had any interest in my background. I have not heard back regarding that position, and have decided to spend more time focusing on other opportunities.

Up to that point, the process was smooth and seamless. However, I found it troubling that it took over 8 hours of interviews, including multiple interviews with the same people, for them to determine if I was an ideal fit for that team. Especially after I read, and heard from employees personally, that Evolent's current start up culture is one in which they choose to bring in talented people up front and then find appropriate roles for them.

    Two phone calls (one screen with the recruiter and one screen with the manager) followed by 3 hours onsite meeting individually with different team members. It was a long day, but they gave me lunch. A few days later, I had a final in person interview with the department head. After that, it was a final phone call with the VP which I could tell was more of a 'check the box' call. Then I got an offer within a week.

    I applied online and about 1 weeks later I received a call from the recruiter saying that they would like to do a phone screen. I passed the phone screen which was very straight forward and just about my experience (15 mins). Then I had a phone interview with a hiring manager - a senior director. Again, this was focused on my experience and was only about 20 mins. From that he stated he would like to bring me in for a round of interviews. The interview was set up for 2 weeks later. I interviewed with 4 different people from the senior director to sr. vp level. It was mostly asking about my experience in a lot of detail and some very high level case-like questions. My overall thoughts on the process:

    1. The recruiter: while nice, she was not good about setting expectations and about follow-up. She stated she would call on a certain day or email and this was not closely followed. I contacted her once a week, which I do not think is aggressive, but after that number of interviews I would think it would be best to close the loop with the candidate either way. She keep say that my feedback was "very positive" - obviously not positive enough to get the position however, and she was not able to provide any feedback beyond the fact that it was all really positive. By the end, I had to go directly to the hiring manger to get her to follow-up and when she did return my call I could tell she was a bit annoyed I went around her.

    2. The interview process: I thought they did a good job with the interviewing. It was a strong back and forth regarding learning about the company and expressing my interest and my qualifications. The one odd thing was that the first person I interviewed with was someone who I wouldn't be working for but who collaborates a lot with the team I was interviewing to join. What that meant was that she didn't have any insight into the role and the qualifications and I didn't have enough of a detailed understanding of the role to ask her pointed questions. That was not a solid way to start as I think meeting with this person later in the day would have been more beneficial for both of us. I was told I would be contacted the next week, which didnt happen (see above)

    3. The organization: For the most part the people I met were very smart and dynamic - I can tell that they work to build out a strong team. That being said, one thing I noticed was I asked every interviewer where they say the company going in the next 5 years, and they all had different answers. I think Evolent like many startups is still very much defining their identity and they haven't really prioritized clarifying their role in the healthcare market. I could tell that anyone that joined would definitely be pulled in a lot of directions and would have to deal with multiple reorganizations as evolent evolves. This is not necessarily a bad thing at all, its just you have the be the type of person to thrive in that environment. Beyond my interview with the recruiter though, I thought the people were definitely the strongest asset of Evolent.

    I didn't get an offer but it worked out for the best given my negative experience with the recruiting process which was disorganized and I had other pending offers which were a better fit for me.

    I was originally contacted by an Evolent manager regarding an opportunity for an individual contributor position. Although I had not been seeking employment outside of my company, I entertained the idea of this new opportunity and submitted a copy of my resume. I was contacted a week later by HR who briefly ran through my resume (15 min). I received a call back in about a week where they said they would like me to come onsite (Arlington) for an interview, not for the individual contributor role, but for a management role as that was more aligned to my current role. Scheduling the onsite interview was challenging (accommodating schedules for five of their associates as well as my own). Several weeks did go by, but they arranged for and reimbursed all of my travel expenses (flight, hotel, meals).The office location is great; very close to the airport for easy travel. Upon arriving at the office, I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is filled with young energetic minds with all the amenities that a "cool" office should have (XBox, Pool Tables, Treadmill workstations, Fresh veggies in the break room). So there are definitely perks working onsite, but I was looking to work remotely. The interview schedule was changed last minute the night before, but I still interviewed with five team members, which included a Manager, Sr. Manager, Staff VP, Individual contributor, and then a direct report. The interviews went well. They varied from talking through my background to "tell me about a time" to "let's just chat". I left the interviews on a positive note and received an email later that day from HR stating they would follow-up with me in a week. This is where things went sour. Like several other reviews, I never heard back. I found out via LinkedIn that the Ind Contributor Interviewer was promoted internally into the position I had interviewed for. I sent a follow-up to HR and they responded stating the manager would call. However, the phone call never came.

    It Moved very quickly and was Well organized. After 3 phone screens, I was flown in for a 4 hour interview. Everyone was very nice and I was blown away by how ambitious everyone seemed. I use interviews as a chance to assess the culture and trajectory of a company, so it was just as much about me learning them as them learning me. I enjoyed the process, and I don't say that about a lot of interviews!

    Screened by HR, passed onto hiring manager, brought in to interview with exec mgt. Overall the format was behavioral based canned/scripted questions. For some this is a gift. For me, they are annoying and demeaning. There were dozens asked over the course of four hours by 8 people over the course of two days.
