Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 6 Wochen. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert bei ERGO Interactive (New York, NY (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

The process was pretty thorough: Phone interview, in-person interview with hiring manager, in-person interview with full team, then another in-person interview with a skills test/presentation to the full team. Despite this thoroughness, there was a general lack of transparency throughout the process, which moved ERGO down my priority list while interviewing at other companies. For example, when I asked about a timeline, the CEO said "ASAP... but ASAP could mean a year." Obviously this wasn't very helpful, and that lack of consideration was a red flag to me.

Overall, the people at the company seemed nice, but there was a strange energy that I think lends credence to the bad reviews you see on Glassdoor. I'd be very thorough about the culture and how you'll be treated when you're there.

The interview is a two-part interview. First, you meet with the Creative Director and then if you make it to the second round you meet with someone from the core management team.

I applied via LinkedIn and was contacted a few days after. I spoke with the position's would-be manager. We had a great conversation, and she answered my question about the poor Glassdoor rating honestly and thoroughly. We covered the typical interview questions during the call and ended up going about 20 minutes over schedule, which was nice! I haven't heard back yet*, but I hung up excited about Ergo Interactive, despite the ratings seen on the Overview page.

*I had to choose an offer option, but will update this after I hear back!

    Bewerbung

Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte mehr als 2 Monate. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im August 2018 bei ERGO Interactive (New York, NY (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

There were four interviews, a personality test, a practical test, and five reference checks, over the course of nearly two months, and then an offer that I declined a couple hours before they were going to extend it (they told me after the fact they were planning to).

As you can see, I have a lot to say, but to summarize it bluntly: it's a strange, non transparent, hiring-by-committee process that placed such an emphasis on culture, personality and psychology that it felt more like auditioning for admission to a fraternity, or perhaps a cult, than interviewing for a professional job.

I had some suspicions about ERGO's legitimacy in the first place, based on Glassdoor reviews (the negative ones feel authentic, the positive mostly sound written by the CEO), and based on the experience of a good friend who worked here when they were called Boombox. Apparently, there was a day in which the entire creative team quit en masse in frustration. But, I needed work at the time I applied, and I tried to give them a fair shake.

The people seemed nice, if a little odd - but mostly, I've never seen such a redundant interview process in all my life.

They want you to think it's in-depth, and that they really consider candidates closely, just because the process is long, but by the end I'd had almost the same discussion with seven different people, while in the meantime completing a very time consuming practical assignment that I thought had a flawed premise to begin with.

The interviews themselves are long lists of broad, softball questions that rarely have to do directly with job capabilities. I spoke with these people for a total of nearly five hours, and it was almost alarming how little they talked about the job itself, asked probing or relevant questions about the kind of work I'd done before, or voluntarily opened up about the company's goals and philosophy.

For example, in the second interview we spoke for an entire hour about my past employers' cultures, team structures, clients, and my work style in excruciating, line by line detail, with a lot of rating things on scales of 1 to 10, and then they opened the floor to questions for me to ask them...without asking one question about my job capabilities. It was bizarre.

Someone on here mentioned the place having a "weird energy" - I would agree. As friendly as (most) everyone was, the lack of transparency about the job duties and company mission and history just made it feel they were hiding something. I could not shake the feeling that something here just was not right.

Then there was this: In the final interview, a senior executive in the roundtable gave me almost creepy vibes. He stared at the table in silence the entire time and never reacted to anything I said, as if in a deep depression, and when I asked him what he liked about ERGO and what keeps him there, he opened his answer with "I don't know," before awkwardly mumbling about having met and liked the CEO and sharing his vision.

Okay. The table laughed at the "I don't know," like they thought he was joking. After everything I'd seen, I was no longer so sure about that.

I know I've written a lot, but that's because it's hard to put into words just what kind of vibe this place gave off to me. Maybe you'll feel differently - but I thought what I saw overall lends a lot of credence to the bad reputation surrounding this joint.

    Good luck!

    • "Rate the culture of [past company] on a scale 1-10?"
"On a scale of 1-10, how would [past manager] rate your teamwork?"
"How do you approach collaboration?" (they were REALLY big on these kinds of broad and shallow questions that, again, don't really touch on your capabilities).   Frage beantworten

First you get a call that will delve into your background and general information.

Next, you go in to meet to CTO and do a coding test. Generally you can take as long as you want on the test so it's to your benefit to go in early in the day.

Finally, you meet the CEO and the heads of the other teams.

I have started the interview with the art director, the business director arrived later so missed most of the meeting. They have asked me SO MANY questions during 45 minutes, they wanted to know every single detail of how I worked in my previous roles, it was EXHAUSTING. Sometimes their question were a little too personal so make sure you stay professional and keep your distances. I read many bad reviews on this company so I'm not too sad if I don't get the job. I haven't heard back from them after the interview.

The interview process is very typical with no surprises. There were three steps in total: a phone screening/interview, one in-person interview with the direct supervisor, and one final in-person interview with the entire leadership team including the CEO.

The interview process was smooth sailing and response times back were good. The whole process took 2 weeks before I was made an offer and accepted it (after negotiating, of course).
