Vorstellungsgespräch

There was a video screen where they would ask a question and the interviewees had 30 sec to a minute to respond. I did not hear back from the video interview until a couple months afterward through a follow, follow up

Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 4 Wochen. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im Januar 2015 bei Box (Los Altos, CA (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

The Box interview had several rounds, with one phone screening by a recruiter, three more by team leads and potential colleagues, then a marathon in-person interview at Box HQ in Los Altos with 6 members of the team and a demo at the end.

Most questions asked were standard "tell me about a time when..." with things such as "learned a hard lesson", "made a mistake", etc. I was also asked to rate my technical skills from 1 to 10. I selected 6.5 and was asked how I would set up a customer who wanted to run automated extracts using Box. That was the most technical question I was asked.

As for the big scary demo, just demonstrate that you understand the key functionality of Box and show your professional demeanor that you would use to conduct a kick off meeting with a customer.

Unfortunately, their compensation was far below an offer I already had on the table. They came back to me three times with incremental shares, and then a sign-on bonus, but it just couldn't come close to what I was being offered elsewhere. Honestly, I was thankful that they couldn't come close because the culture and product are fantastic and I already felt it was a heart-wrenching decision, even with the low salary.

Hopefully I'll get another chance down the line to work at this wonderful company!

Whole interview process was horrible- completely turned me off from even wanting to work there. Completely unorganized and unprofessional. Do not stick to their time frame, and the recruiters do not know enough about the positions to give you any real information. For a not-so-great company in the first place, they should really try a bit harder if they want legit employees.

There was an HR phone screen which was simple. The second interview was a technical phone screen with the hiring manager - again, very basic interview. They give you an industry and ask you what would be relevant use cases to Box.

The last round is on-site and you have 4-5 one on one interviews. Then you have to do a mock presentation of a kickoff implementation and demo Box functionality. The strange thing is that you have to answer very detailed questions about Box functionality (ex. Active Directory integration, how to upload 5000 users quickly, etc.) so make sure you learn as much about the product as you can, before going into the interview.

    Fragen im Vorstellungsgespräch

    • The Q&A session during the mock presentation. They expect you to know Box features pretty well.

If a technical consultant interviews you, they may ask you a douchebag question like "How would you design an elevator" ?

It has nothing to do with your skillset and it won't determine if you're good for the job, but they like to think these are great interview questions to ask.   Frage beantworten

    Vorstellungsgespräch

It took about two weeks in total. To start with, two 30-min phone interviews, the first with an HR consultant, the second with the hiring manager. Both casual and friendly, nothing out of the ordinary.
This was followed by an afternoon on site: four 30-min interviews back to back, a 15-min break, and finally a presentation.
Everyone was very welcoming and the questions were meant to gauge your experience, personality and skills.
With back-to-back interviews and a fairly fast pace, it felt like it was designed to put some pressure on the candidate and keep you on your toes. This was ok by me, as I've been under a lot more pressure. Again, some good questions, mostly practical.

The only part I thought wasn't fair and should be looked into was the final roleplay presentation.

You're asked to pick a case study from a pool of average-sized customers and, based on that (marketing materials, plus other reference materials), prepare and present a half-hour implementation kick-off meeting with a short demo of the platform.

All of the above was fine, it's feasible to an extent, and I liked the fact that everyone in the room took it seriously playing their roles.

However, this doesn't reflect the reality of a kick-off meeting at all because there is a bias against the candidate who's the only person in the room who's never done a Box implementation or, in fact, knows much about Box processes, solutions or resources.

I felt I was forced to make too many assumptions and give round-about answers to questions to which, in a real situation, I would definitely know the answer (and if I don't, that means I'm unprepared, which is inexcusable).
The 'clients', on the other hand, ask questions they know the answers to, which is bound to lead to biased conclusions, conscious or not.

The idea of the kick-off meeting is fine, but in the real world, it's the implementation consultant who holds most of the information, while the client is new to the process.

If I may make a suggestion, if you really want to see how a candidate runs it, let them show you the implementation process they've familiar with, so that your questions and their answers will be genuine.
