Bewerbung

Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 2 Tage. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im Februar 2010 bei Bloomberg L.P. (New York, NY (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

Vorstellungsgespräch

Bloomberg was very prompt when it came to communication. I already had another offer and had to respond pretty much within a week, and the company accommodated for me by fitting in my three rounds of interviews into 2 days. Each interview was an hour long; the first two were technical interviews, and the last one was an HR/personality interview. They got back to me in two business days of my last interview.

Fragen im Vorstellungsgespräch

  • Suppose there is a rectangular map where you can only travel up or right to go from a start location in the bottom left corner to the top right corner, and each move is discrete. Write a program that prints all possible solutions to get from the start to finish.   4 Antworten

Ich habe mich online beworben. Der Vorgang dauerte 6 Wochen. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert im März 2010 bei Bloomberg L.P. (New York, NY (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

    Vorstellungsgespräch

I started my application for their 2010 financial software developer position online and a day later I was asked to send them my GPA. One day after I sent them GPA, I was asked to take an online skill test from a programming language I was most comfortable with. I picked C and took the test. The test was not very interesting and focused too much on some advanced or rarely used language features. Some problem can actually have vague answers depending on the compiler implementations. From there you can immediately find the difference from a technical company, which care more about how you will apply your knowledge on data structures and algorithms to solve the problems, instead of some tricky, un-important language features, which requires an intensive preparation even you are a seasoned developer.
After passing the skill test, I was given a phone screening. The experience was not great. I was interviewed by two people. One of them has an extremely very strong accent that I have a great difficulty understanding what she was describing. So far I have interviewed with more than 30 people and she is the only one that I have communicaton difficulty. Also, she was very un-patient and frequently cut you when you are not on the way she was expecting. Given the difficult communication, I was not expecting much after the phone interview.
After two weeks, Bloomberg unexpectedly invited me an in-house interview and I flied in after another 3 weeks. I was told my flight and hotel information just one day earlier. It gave me a feeling that they didn't really actually want me or care about me. The onsite is only composed of a round of technical interview and behavior interview. There should be a third round with a HM if the first two rounds went well. Again, the technical interview involves quite a lot of language features with C++, which I am not very good at given a strong focus on C. However, I think the technical interview was not that bad. The interviewers were quite nice and we had a very good discussion on some interesting problems. The behavior questions are quite grinding. The interviewer was very arrogant. She asked a lot why I hadn't found a job 3 months after graduation. I really feel kind of insulted and couldn't figure out what actually she was looking for there. I told her the market was very bad, but it was turning around and I was quite sure that I could get an offer in the coming month, which is true btw. Obviously she didn't care much any more at that time and we started to wrap up very quickly.
In general, the whole process gave me a very bad feeling and I would say bloomberg is definitely not the company I would want to work for. It is not because they turned me down. It is not a technical company that you can expect to learn a lot from a technical aspect and obviously they do not respect the technical team much.

It was a technical interview and I was asked many C-programming questions regarding lists, memory management and programming algorithms. I was followed up with about an hour after the interview to come in for a second round interview. The second interview consisted of questions regarding statistics, math and in general intelligence related questions.

They basically ask c or c++ questions. I did not have a c++ background so I was grilled on c. The first question they asked me was to write a program to cause stack overflow (just call a function in itself and it will do the job). After that they asked me to write a function which will convert First Name, Last Name to Last Name, First Name in c. Then there were some questions on malloc and calloc , like the difference between these two etc.

2 interviews, 45 minutes each. First one tested basic understanding, and was more theoretical (Difference between Java and C++, pointers, inheritance, questions on resume etc.). The second round had coding questions (writing code on paper for: reversing a string, etc).

I applied online, got an online test, chose C. Test was not bad. Brush up C concepts. Questions on C, predicting program output, and bugs in the code.
Next round was a phone interview, had UNIX based questions on processes, threads, accessing shared memory, about the pipe system call, etc. and one algorithms based question.
After that, I went onsite. Had a technical interview, which I enjoyed, questions based on the internal working on C function calls, stack memory, etc. Another interview with a manager, which was personality questions plus puzzles. And a final round with HR.

This is an on campus interview. The interviewer is nice and gives some hints for me. Generally, this is a harmonious interview although I did not do well. The on campus interview consists of two parts. If you pass the first part, you can go the second part. Unfortunately, I failed in the first part.

Two guys interviewed me at school's career center. They kept asking me questions about C++ even though I told them it was not my primary language. Then I was given a programming test. They were even picky about the name of the variable I gave.

The process started with an online assessment test. Lots of in depth programming questions. Next week, they invited me to an on-site interview in their Manhattan building. Building and location are great. I had 2 1:1 interviews. Both with friendly and experienced engineers. First round consisted of 4-5 small questions related to programming and data structures. Find the intersection of two sets, multi-threading, why bloomberg, talk about previous experience etc. Second part was with a senior manager. He asked a single question. Given a tree, write a code to check if it is a binary search tree or not. He gave me 15 minutes and after that discussed my code and alternate solutions.
Overall, the hotel they made me stay, the office environment, HR and the level of interview questions were all great. I had a very positive experience.
