Leichtes Gespräch

Bewerbung

Der Vorgang dauerte mehr als 3 Monate. Vorstellungsgespräch absolviert bei Bloomberg L.P. (New York, NY (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika)).

Vorstellungsgespräch

Pretty much everything you’ve seen here-
Video Recording, tell why Bloomberg, why you like markets, etc
Super Day - shadow employee, mock customer interaction, tour, and two 30 minute interviews. The Analytics interview was more behavioral stuff, and the Sales was focused on drilling on my sales experiences and skills

    Vorstellungsgespräch

Sent in through school recruiter, then had 2 phone interviews (about you and about the company) then on onsite which had you use the terminal with 2 more interviews at the office. Final round of cuts is one more interview onsite which is just casual talk.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

    4 Part Interview Process:

    1) Phone Call: really simple screening phone call just asking about your experience, education, and why you're interested

    2) Recorded Interview Questionaire: definitely an awkward video interview as you record yourself answering questions like: what do you know about bloomberg? tell us about yourself? what are three words to decribe yourself? what are your hobbies? what do you know about the role

    3) Super-Day: this part of the process is extremely exciting but also intimidating. the office is unbelievable and you get a full tour of the building and the analytics department. you shadow an analyst work with clients via the terminal but this part doesnt really matter as you dont need to impress these workers. you then particiapte in a phantom bloomberg session where you work the terminal and work with 2-3 clients at the same time. once again, this is just so they can see how you react under pressure. the questions are pretty simple but just be polite via the chat and you will be fine. after you interview with two team leaders and they were very nice but also ask you the same questions but this time you need to provide more answers and more in-depth responses. both sessions last no more than 30 min.

    4) Interview with Hiring Manager: this is super hard, going to be honest. if you say you are knowledgable about finance they will grill you for the entire hour. they will also ask you to sell them something so be ready for that. be ready to explain why bloomberg over other comapnies and make sure u know everything bloomberg does (not just sell terminals). if you do well here, they ll call you in two weeks and tell you that you got the job.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

there are about 3-4 rounds in total. Stating with a video interview (for campus recruiting, not necessary) this is for screening purpose to confirm that you are a "real" person instead of a robot.
Then HR interview for 30mins. they are going to ask you fairly standard HR questions such as: walk me through your resume. why are you interested in Bloomberg? What is your understanding on this job (what do you think you will be doing in this role). Tell me about a recent news that affects the financial market. It shouldn't be hard for you to pass this round, then you will be invited for on-site interview.
You will be interviewed by 2 Team leaders at one time (one from Analytics, one from Sales) for 1 hour. Their questions will be based on two principals: Do I want to take this candidate on my team? For analytics TL: "Am I willing to invest in this candidate?"(meaning the time and money they invest into your training). For Sales TL:"Am I confident to put this candidate in front of my client?".
The next round will be a manager from either analytics or sales. Final round would be with the regional head or if he is not available, you will get another manager.
The above determines 80-90% whether you will get your offer. The rest would be based on the feedback from two other activities.
Activity 1 Group case/discussion for 30mins: you will be assigned to a group of 5-7 candidates. Your team’s task is to read one article from Bloomberg and answer around 5 questions in a mini-presentation, with some simple Bloomberg functions. Your host will teach you the necessary functions, you can choose which question you want to present. Tip: as long as you have a good body language and speak with confidence, and show you are a team person, the content doesn’t really matter.
Activity 2 Phantom chat 30mins: This is a role play, which means you are going to play the Bloomberg analytics rep, and your host will play a client. They have certain “script” to follow, sometimes pretending an impatient client, just to see how you are able to multi-task and manage client expectation to maintain a good Bloomberg reputation. Unless you did really good or really bad, this is just for you to get a sense on what the role does.

The following two activities will have no influence on your interview unless you blow it up. shadowing for 30mins: you are going to watch how an analytical rep’s day to day work looks like. Observe the tools they are using and how they handle client’s questions. Ask question if you have, no need to impress them.
building tour for 30min: your host will talk about the company culture, walk through the pantry floor.

    Things to know:
    - this is a great program if you are a recent graduate or want to have an understanding on the financial world. They will train you really well, (about half of the time will be training for the first 6 month as you join in). just like what you do in the university: go to classes, take exams, and you are paid to learn about the functions, the players and the roles of your client. But you shouldn’t be in the role for longer than 2 years or else it will be a waste of your time.
    - it should be relatively easy to get the offer since they are hiring > 150 people/year for the program. You may think this as an entry level training program where people would go to different team or department as they grow (for example Electronic trading. Sales, or to product team)
    - the work itself is very intense after you hit the desk, consider this as a customer service role but very technical. You need to handle 3 clients inquiries at one time, on different questions, one of them may be on phone and two others waiting. If you are looking for a fancy job like investment banking, this would be the wrong place.

I interviewed for the Beijing office remotely since I was in US that time. 4 round interviews took me more than 3 months to complete, which was too long. Interviewers were quite friendly. Actually I benefited a lot from the whole process and succeed another interview later.

    1st step -
Prerecorded video screening. 5 questions, about a minute each. Basic questions that covered introduction and customer service/sales, and a couple questions that covered the terminal and the markets (nothing too intense, just make sure you're following a piece of financial news and you know what the terminal is). You get a minute to gather your thoughts before it starts recording, and 1 retry on the last few questions.

    2nd step -
Phone screening with recruiter. Again, very basic, lasted about 15 - 20 minutes. Went over details about the role and asked a few questions about customer service/sales. No market-related questions for me at this step but it could depend on recruiter.

    3rd step -
Super day. They invited me in-person to interview (flight and hotel paid for if you're out of town). 30 minute tour of the office, 30 minute simulation of the terminal, 30 minute job shadowing, and then 2x 30 minute 1-on-1 interviews (one with the analytics manager, and the other with sales manager).

Unfortunately I didn't get the job, but it was a very pleasant experience. Not once do they look at your resume (that's their thing), so they hire based on fit and behavioral questions. They also hire from a variety of backgrounds, so having finance knowledge is not necessary. During the tour, try to ask a lot of questions and build rapport with the tour guide. During the simulation, the focus is on how well you respond to the client, not if you can find a solution. During the analytics interview, there were a few behavioral questions on good customer service and finding the right info. During the sales interview, there were a few behavioral questions about sales and then I was asked to sell something.
