Vorstellungsgespräch

It was a phone interview, and an in-person interview with a typing test involved. The training is 6 weeks and extensive. Management is helpful as they can be. The culture is good there but I had to leave to care for sick family.

    Vorstellungsgespräch

    * Position applied for online.
    * Phone call to advise of in-person interview in 6 days time - email confirmation received 28 hours after initial call.
    * Met at reception by one of the interview panel.
    * No room booked and nearest available room to reception used for interview .
    * Some re-arrangement of room required prior to interview.
    * Second person on panel then arrived in room a few minutes later.
    * One person on the interview panel (prospective boss) advised had to leave half way through interview as had another appointment.

    First thing I was told at commencement of interview was that one of the panel (prospective boss) had to leave 30 minutes into a scheduled 60 minute interview to meet a client. Not a good start and this set the tone for the interview with said person demonstrating through that statement and subsequent departure that the interviewee's time and scheduled appointment were not respected or valued.

    Interview questions were all scripted and read from a sheet by the HR person and were of the behavioural type ie tell us about a time when......
    No effort was made by the interview panel to deviate from the scripted questions and the whole interview was performed without a personable or enquiring approach. Prospective boss did not ask one question as it was left to the HR person to do so - he answered one question I directed at him prior to him leaving for other appointment. No cognitive testing or skills review performed by employer prior to interview. Panel seemed uncomfortable to answer questions.

    Many warning signs. I suggest being very mindful and performing your own thorough due diligence. As a start, check out the Glassdoor reviews on the culture before even agreeing to an interview. As it turns out for me, the time spent going to the interview could have been much better used - I have even considered invoicing them for my time on the day.

    the interview process was quite structured to begin with and then the process involves a lot of peer assessment too. Additionally, the focus was a lot on how can the individual work alongside the business needs to come up with an agenda for the department.
