    Vestas is a company with strong values and treats its employees well. The company employs great people and has a nice atmosphere. People who work there really believe in the company's product, wind energy and are experts in this industry. Vestas is a great engineering company.

    Unfortunately the company was in a constant state of chaos and transition with multiple rounds of layoffs during the two years I worked there (2010-2012). Often these layoff rounds appeared to be conducted without much assessment of what the staff who were laid off were doing and no plan for how to pass their work on to others- this slowed down productivity significantly.     There are lots of opportunities for advancement… processes and governance issues are always changing... projects with a mandate and clear goals are numerous and ever changing so people with various project management skills (or lack thereof) can find fertile ground to add success stories to their resumes.

    Too many changes for too long a time have left the company with a staff that is less than 100% motivated to believe in the next leader, project, or process that has 'top priority'. After all, most people that have been there for more than 18 months understand that their job is on the line - always. An old boys network protects the interests of the network, and this is very difficult to break in to.

    Excellent pay, excellent benefits, and always supplied with great work shirts and caps. Co workers are sincere about doing a good days work.

    A tax subsidized industry that is suffering due to less government financing and no private market investors. Many recent layoffs. Home office in Denmark seems clueless that the company is a revolving door of staff coming and going. Wind Site Managers have been thrown into the job with no training.

    Promotes a greener planet by developing sustainable energy solutions.

    Kontras

    Vestas management is a white, Danish, old boys club. If you aren't a member of that club, you do not get advancement opportunities. The company claims to be international, but the only culture they see as valid is Danish. Things like financial responsibility, cost control, minimizing operational cost, and thinking about things from the customer's perspective are non-existent or a distant second.

    The customer needs to come first. Meeting and exceeding their expectations, anticipating and avoiding their headaches, and putting forth a cost affective solution are all that matter. Anything else is noise, drama, and needless expense. Time to get back to basics.
