    Pros

Lots of money for research; you are basically left to do your own thing

    Kontras

total indifference to whether you are happy or not, or whether you stay or go; the good people produce, do not get recognized, leave with little commotion as there's lot more where you came from, so whatever, while the bad never get removed, in fact, they get 'promoted up and out of the way'; little recognition for what you bring. management is run by the rotating chairs old boys club, just stay out of everything.

    Rat an das Management

    nothing. they don't listen anyways.

    Pros

Experience another culture and easy to travel to other countries. If used to be inexpensive to live here but not anymore.

    Kontras

Cons: 1-The work culture is the worst. If you are not Arab or speak Arabic, you are considered irrelevant and receive no support from management or HR. I have witnessed the excessive, oppressive, sexist, and racist treatment of the Expat faculty and staff. 2-Corrupt management with no managerial capacity, experience, or credentials! Leadership is none existent. Resulting in a toxic, harassing volatile workplace... environment lacking opportunities to improve or grow because no one knows what they are doing. 3-High turnover! NO raises! If they feel they can use you to make themselves look good, they dump more work and responsibility on you without any compensation. 4-Contracts are renewable every two years but can be fired at any time without any reason. 5-Salaries have been frozen for years, and they prevent anyone from making money anywhere else. No raises! 6-Skype, Zoom, and other apps are even blocked on campus so you can't maintain an online teaching position at any other institutions. 7-A majority of the faculty especially the foundation dept. have lied about their credentials and experience meaning they have none outside working at UAEU. Faculty that have credentials paid someone to do the work for them and have no previous work experience other than UAEU. This causes a high turnover of qualified personnel with actual credentials and experience. 8-High teaching load due to high turnover and no new faculty since even the veteran faculty are leaving due to decreases in benefits and opportunities. They think because you are in their country they can turn anyone into an indentured servant. 9-Service institution, not a research or even teaching institution. About all of the Emirati faculty have no idea how to conduct original research or teach. A brief conversation proves they have no idea how to use proper APA format; even their emails reflect their inability to write in English or Arabic. 10-The entire country is set up only to benefit the Emirates. They experience no consequences for any of their actions and most have no previous experience in the workforce. Jobs are passed out based on tribal connections and personal favors. The country is really in a severe economic crisis that they are continuing to try to hide. Their war with Yemen and the drop in oil prices has had a destabilizing effect on the country. Even the K-12 school systems are in serious disarray.

    Negative Prognose

Ich habe bei United Arab Emirates University gearbeitet - Vollzeit

    Pros

Salary is high, lots of access to research money., really nice students. So much potential to be a world class institution.

    Kontras

Corporate culture is the worst, you are a replaceable cog in the wheel no matter what. Highly political - backstabbing type of place. It is nearly impossible to get anyone in HR or other admin areas to do their job.

    Rat an das Management

Take a good hard look at why so many people are leaving.

    Pros

Al Ain is a nice place, although very quiet and more catered to Emiratis. The air quality is good, less traffic on the road.

    Kontras

It is not a good place for research development (my personal experience). Early career researchers from outside UAE, should think twice from moving in here. If you are female, be extra cautious, there is tendency to demean the 'other' gender. But this may of course vary from dept. to dept. And one may be lucky...

    Rat an das Management

Let it be for real education.

    Pros

-Good salary for a research assistant -Good health insurance. -fancy place -good funding -flexible working hours

    Kontras

-During the initial period, I was on a part time contract. It was really bad, the salaries are always delayed as the payment process is very slow for part time RAs. -Haven't gained any knowledge, it's a bad experience terms of career progressing. -Position depends on project fund, so it's not a stable position.

Professor you're working under almost completely controls your hours, pay, etc. and you can't make an unfairness complaint without losing your job.
