Ich habe für mehr als ein Jahr bei USAA gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Great benefits. I had some major mouth surgery and the short term disability was easy and wonderful.

    Kontras

If you do not play the game and drink the Kool-Aid you wont find advancement. Doesn't matter the level of your skill or performance. If you drink the Kool-Aid they will find ways to promote you.

    Rat an das Management

Find a better way for advancement of the qualified people.

    Pros

Great company. Great Mission. Great Service. Great Benefits.

    Kontras

Average pay. Takes a long time to climb the corporate ladder. A lot of competition and can be political. Leadership is first measured by performance metrics on the phone. If you aren't at the top in production, you aren't being looked at as a leader.

    Rat an das Management

Identify leadership attributes. Even Tiger Woods needed a swing coach.

    Pros

Benefits are fantastic. The people we serve are world-class. The work environment and people are awesome!

    Kontras

Promotion potential is limited. When people promote into leadership roles, they stay there. When positions become available, there are dozens if not hundreds of applicants just to get off the phones. If you get on a Saturday schedule, don't expect to get many Saturdays approved for time off.

Ich arbeite seit weniger als einem Jahr bei USAA (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Great culture and benefits! Really like not having to cold call to generate business. In a position to really help members and facilitate their financial security.

    Kontras

It is a call center. It can get very monotonous day after day taking calls. Cannot be off of the phones too long during the course of a day. Many calls you receive are calls that are transferred to you where the member called about something other than financial services. It is up to you to open the call. Paid time off is available but not very flexible. The time off calendar (with preferred weeks off i.e.,... Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.) gets filled VERY quickly and preference is given to tenured employees. The performance metrics are focused on individual products sold, NOT assets moved into the company. Too complicated compared to other firms.

    Rat an das Management

Train other business areas on what a "quality" referral to Financial Planning should look like. TOO much time spent with members who have debt management problems. Make paid time off a little more flexible.

    Pros

if you will be working in the San Antonio, Texas office and NOT in the investments (financial adviser) line of business, then it should be a good experience for you. In San Antonio and in the non-investment line of businesses they seem to believe that employees are valuable assets. The opposite is true for the investment (financial adviser) positions in Florida.

    Kontras

it will be a very bad experience if you work in Florida as a Financial Adviser. In the investment line of business the financial advisers are viewed NOT as valuable assets but rather easily replaceable expenses. Managers lie to you about if you do this then you will be promoted. They will string you along and treat you like trash. They will not value your skill set in Florida and there's no place to go as far... as growing a career path. A manager told us that USAA considered getting rid of the investmen line of business all together and that's the best thing they can do. USAA has no idea how to run an investment line of business.

    Rat an das Management

Advice to management is worthless unless it goes directly to the CEO. The 8 or 9 layers of management below the CEO just lie to the CEO to paint a positive picture so the middle layers can try to preserve their own job. The middle layers are the cause of the problem.

    Pros

Great benefits, good location. great coworkers

    Kontras

It's acall center so depending on the manager you may be micromanaged to death. Sales philosophy is direct as many calls to the FA's as possible, so you get calls from P&C, Credit Cards to "finish up the call"; essentially they just updated their insurance and are dropped to the FA's with no set up. You are supposed to open up the call and find a way to sell them life insurance, annuities or managed portfolios. ... 90% of the people don't want to talk to you. Metrics change every year. I mean a 180 degree change. Essentially it's an insurance company trying to be an investment company. And failing. Any discussion with managers leads to the inevitable "trust the process" conversation. Some managers are great and leave you alone to work. Some micromanage you to the point of noting the exact minutes you were on break.

Ich habe bei USAA gearbeitet ()

    Pros

Great Benefits, Great Top Leadership. Inspiring Company and inspiring members who make you LOVE the work you do. The core values of USAA are to do the right thing for the members who are also the owners of the company. The compensation, workplace facilities, and bonuses are the best anywhere.

    Kontras

    1. If you get saddled with an old school manager, they usually want to maintain the status quo at ALL costs and often have never worked at outside companies. The Peter principle applies because while they promote within, sometimes they fill the gap with people nit qualified or suited for the position. Those same managers refuse to let you move on or away so it becomes a hangman's noose. 2. Directors and AVPs... often want to implement some new strategy to make their mark and get promoted. The hallmarks of USAA are stability and growth comes from customer loyalty where the customer never questions the company's integrity or motivation. This has changed due to mid level management competition and they will sacrifice any frontline employees to achieve their personal goals regardless of the benefit to USAA or members. 3. Front line employees are easily expendable wile managers are insular and work very hard to protect their own. This should be the opposite and front line employees should feel empowered by managers, not fear them 4. Credit received is never accurate. The accounting system for assigning credit to an employee changes every few months and is based on a 1970's code that just can't do the job no mater how many fixes they add. Some reps find ways to take credit for some achievements where they simply had contact and the bulk of the real work (the real reason it was achieved) was done by another who had that credit stolen from them. It is highly skewed, inaccurate and highly unfair.

    Rat an das Management

Instead of treating negative feedback from frontline employees as "disgruntled", change managers to new teams and of they do not improve, put them back in as front line reps for a year. Count quality of member experience over letters after a person's name. Do not assume good reps make good managers because they are completely separate skills. Evaluate management skills and management reviews from subordinates... critically because USAA often has a few great managers, a few good ones, and some awful ones that should never be allowed near employees because they ruin employee lives and member experiences.

Set career path, amazing benefits, great group of coworkers

    Kontras

promote manager positions from within the site, not from other locations. This would help employees see an opportunity for growth within the company.

    Pros

Pros - Personally admire and respect a lot of skilled co workers. -Multiple opportunities to grow professional credentials (see cons) -Educational materials available to anyone seeking the knowledge -Safety and job security in the position. All signs point to them expanding their scope and capturing more current members from an investment capacity. -Great members. Very receptive and patient. (They are... accustomed to a superior level of customer service. Instant rapport based on that reputation.) -Very understanding and empathetic management. (I had medical issues when first completing training there was literally not one issue. They could not have been more welcoming and flexible. See cons) -Very open communication. Clear delineation of personal and collective goals. -Easy to use, sophisticated software tracking members past experience and providing the dual facing results to the member -Very clear, concise, and personalized training. -Positive environment especially considering other discount brokers/dealers -Fantastic benefits available. The best amenities Ive ever seen at any company.

    Kontras

Cons -If you are confident in your abilities as an adviser I believe you could put yourself ahead of an adviser inside the company with a similar level of effort. This is the job to take if you want simplicity and the safety of the paycheck -The biggest issue for myself was the stunting of my personal and professional growth. There are a very fixed set of steps defining progression at USAA. (Someone with a... superior talent will have a harder time shining because of this. I wouldn't be surprised if most of their advisers have the same professional 5 year plan.) -Nebulous management program. Could possibly mean your manager was given a position based solely on his performance as a military officer. (For a time I had a manger that had literally never worked with clients in a FA capacity. He was a great leader and a nice guy but taking feed-back from someone whom is scrutinizing your efficeincy based on concepts they haven't practiced is an exercise in tolerance) - Not a challenging position. -Very effective software leaves an adviser wishing to push and challenge themselves wanting more sovereignty over their recommendations -Limited to proprietary funds or a blend there of -Funds that under perform in recent years relative to the average return from outside funds with similar investment objectives -Very strict schedule when working inbound on the phones (likely where the majority of your time will be spent) -Very difficult position to personalize the training is meant to give a consistent experience when a member works with other advisers. -Personal beliefs conflicting with some of the company beliefs concerning risk tolerance and the ideal products to address those concerns -Poor wording involving some of the required disclosures/processes

You guys were wonderful people. I literally couldn't generate one truly heartfelt complaint about any of the members of management. To me they were always understanding and forthwith with information. Great, nice people. Some of the tornado of meetings management are required to attend as well as some for the advisers are corny and unnecessary. Sometimes I felt my potential had a governor attached by their drive to... create a consistent seamless experience between membership and FAs. Im capable of a lot more than my responsibilities reflected and it was discouraging

    Pros

The benefits at USA are great including the bonus and the 401k match.

    Kontras

It's a call center position and there is little to no room for flexibility. The position is moving in the direction of a product focused position as opposed to financial planning.
