Ich arbeite seit mehr als 10 Jahren bei US Department of Veterans Affairs (Vollzeit)

      Pros

Helping our veterans hands down is the best!

      Kontras

Same as most healthcare facilities, never enough staff! Pulling staff to other floors. Too many "chiefs" and not enough indians.

      Rat an das Management

Stop making it about mumbers!!! We care for PEOPLE not numbers. Acknowledge the hard working staff who make VA their choice!

Ich habe für mehr als 5 Jahre bei US Department of Veterans Affairs gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

      Pros

Working for the VA is a rewarding job because you are helping America's heroes and their families. Promotion is fast if you are willing to move anywhere in the country. Most employees are veterans themselves and make for good working relations. The best part about working for the VA is that you become knowledgable about all your VA benefits and can help friends and family obtain them.

      Kontras

It is heavily run by the 'good ole boy' network. Most people in leadership positions, especially in NCA, are mostly white. They turn a blind eye to those in SES positions when they are completely clueless about their jobs and/or commit serious offenses. Those that are hired to run the agencies are usually prior corporate leaders who have no knowledge about veterans and their benefits, therefore creating regulations...

Treat all employees equally with respect and fairness to retain good and hard-working employees. Do not look at color but at performance when selecting new managers.

        Pros

The work is the most motivating and worthwhile in government.

        Kontras

Balancing the intense public pressure and the challenges in getting information to react quickly is hard. But worthwhile.

Ich arbeite seit mehr als 8 Jahren bei US Department of Veterans Affairs (Vollzeit)

        Pros

Great work-life balance. Benefits include paid an sick leave, paid holidays, differed compensation options, and merit (job) protection. On scale, competition (job selection) is mostly fair and unbiased and complies with the laws.

        Kontras

Management. Organization is so large, that any kind of real change takes decades. Success seems correlated to one's capacity for patience and flexibility, not skills and abilities. Career promotion is often only gained by leaving for another agency. Employee retention is not seen exist. The budgetary process is ridiculous and after trickling down to the team supervisor level, there is nothing left. Training is mostly...

        Rat an das Management

OIT management: Stop re-organizing! Re-orgs create confusion and ambiguity to the point of staff do not know what functions they are responsible for or what part of the organization they work for. Instead, perhaps work with your your supervisory team (managers) to create a list of who is supposed to provide specific functions. OIT can only properly support to VHA and VBA when they stop saying "I don't know who does that,...

          Empfiehlt nicht

Ich habe für mehr als ein Jahr bei US Department of Veterans Affairs gearbeitet (Teilzeit)

          Pros

Looks great on your resume coming out of college.

          Kontras

NEVER got paid on time. They have one very small office processing payments for thousands of work-study students. I had to bully my way into that information when my pay was late by three months! The semester was over before I got paid. Useless job to have as a student.

          Rat an das Management

Hire more people to process payroll for students.
